I think it was Better Homes and Gardens that showed fondant penguins in their Chirstmassey issue this year.

I can't make a racket and rumble thru the house right now, but I can look in the morning.

It could also be Good Housekeeping, maybe Cooking light?

They didn't look too scary to attempt!

I've made a couple. I just started with two round balls of white like a snowman then draped a black cape over the head and back (kids said they looked like Jedi LOL) I pinched out a tail in the bottom and pinched in two little flippers and an orange beak. For the feet I cut out two little flowers with my fondant rose set and pinch to petals together so he had three toes and stuck them to the bottom with water. My kids made some of there own so I wouldn't think it was too difficult. They aren't the best I've seen on here but we think they're cute.

Mine is the first followed my my two boys.

Silly me. They're in Martha Stewart, of course!
The December issue, and they are a simple version.
Found them on the web site, though I wish they posted better pictures!

After reading Rembo's post, then I realised that my penguins have no tails icon_redface.gif . Nonetheless, this is how I made my penguins (I have posted the pictures sometime back, sorry I don't know how to upload the picture here):

Head - roll a round ball with black fondant.
Body - roll another ball of white and shape it to body shape.
Back of body - use a bit of black, form a tear drop shape and flatten, then paste it on the back of the body.
Wings (black) & legs (orangy colour) - form a tear drop shape and flatten.

Assemble head to body, attach wings and add on legs. Then add on penguins' eyes and beak.

Hope you understand.

I've made them with royal icing and they were super easy and very cute. Try that if the fondant doesn't work.

use tip 12 for the body (white) (like your starting the base for a rose)
then tip 12 (black) for head and wings.
tip 3 (orange) for the beak and toes 3 on each foot
tip 1 eyes (white) with a little dot of black in the middle
