After burning out two hand mixers making icing for my cake classes and not being able to afford a new stand mixer, I was overjoyed to find a Sunbeam mixmaster that worked perfectly in the local thrift store for $2.
Yesteday I was mixing a batch of royal icing and all was going well. I went to the freezer to get out some hamburg for supper and heard the mixer quit. I flew to the mixer and shut it off hoping it had maybe just overheated and would work again when it cooled off. No such luck. ![]()
I thought maybe my DH could take it apart and fix it or find out what was wrong and maybe send for a new part. So I went to clean it up from the powdered sugar and low and behold I discovered that the end of the cord that plugs into the mixer was just lying on the counter. I plugged it back in and turned it on and it worked. It must have just vibrated loose or something. Boy, did I ever feel dumb for not noticing it before but also very relieved that I had my mixer up and running. ![]()
It reminded me of what a repairman once said when something electrical didn't work. "Is it plugged in?" ![]()
Amazing how a mixer/appliance is like a dear family member, eh? My KA is the same way. I will have to look closer at the resale shops-can always use a "just in case" mixer.
my goodness...i wish i could have found one for 2 bux...i have a mixmaster and i love it...but i just killed my first one the night before Thanksgiving making lemon cookies of all things...had to go get another one ..grrr...i would love to have a KA but right now thats outta my price range.
