I couldn't find an article on this.
Wanting to know how to make a cupcake cake.
Do you arrange them in desired shape and then just put a thick coating of frosting all over the top-then decorate?
Wanting something cute to take to a Christmas tea on Friday.
Thanks!
Every time I try to read this or any article or photo my computer freaks out.
I've had to re-start it 3 times. ![]()
Since I'm at work I dare not try again.
If I'm on the right track about frosting the cupcake cake first, will someone just let me know? ![]()
Thanks.
Just put your cupcakes very close together. You may have to put a touch of buttercream on the bottom of the cups to hold them still. Frost as you would a regular cake and then just add your border and decorations!
1. After you take your cupcakes out of the oven, you cover them with a clean paper towel and place a cutting board on top of them. This will flatten them out to give you an even surface to work with.
2. Once they've cooled, you arrange them onto your cakeboard. Attach them to the cakeboard with a dab of icing on the bottom of each cupcake.
3. Ice the tops using the icer tip, smooth it out, and finish decorating!
HTH and good luck.
I was afraid to try this...now I'm not...thank you.
Just remember to stagger your cupcakes to elimate gaps, otherwise your icing will fall through. Also I learned the hard way that if you are making more than one batch, use the same brand and flavor of cake mix because they bake up differently. Also I usually measure 1/4cup of batter into each cupcake to make sure that they are all the same size.
a baking sheet or heavy pan works great to flatten the cupcakes when they come out of the oven,,,press it to the top of the cakes for just a minute and it will make them all pretty even.
Another tip that I love is to use a small ice cream scoop to fill the cupcake papers...it helps to make sure each cupcake has the same amount of batter in it so they bake more evenly
don't worry if there are some spaces between the cupcakes..there is no way to totally eliminate that..the icing wont fall through.
Thanks so much for this thread. I was wondering how they were done. I sort of figured the basics, but the little hints are invaluable.
