If using luster dust mix it with vodka or everclear (or an extract like vanilla)

Now I did paint with wilton gel coloring and mixed it with some vanilla and it did dry but it took a bit to do so.

Thank you much for the quicky replies......
I did remember that mixing with lemon extract was good....this cake is for my Doctor and her nurses......Now, if I mix with vodka,,,,will the "alcohol" still be there??

The alcohol will evaporate that is what causes it to dry.

Like sherry said you can use the gel straight, I did but it took over a week to dry completely.

Lemon leaves flavor behind, as does vanilla. Vodka - no flavor.

Use medicine cups or empty paste color jars to mix in. Leave it thick like paint for opaque (2 layers or so) or thin like watercolor for transparent. Paint on a scrap first to check color and transparency.

yep just put your powdered colour on a dish then add a small drop of vodka and mix to consistency you require, then paint on your fondant. Good idea to dab it on to fondant scraps first to get right colour or depth needed.
this will dry very quickly using vodka and have no taste.
In my photos I painted spiderman on the cake and also painted the badge on another cake using this method.
cheers Jan

I just used Americolor Super Red straight on plain sugarpaste, and it turned such a dark red it was almost black, and was a long time drying, so obviously I needed to mix it with something...next time I will use some vodka.
