This is a final buffet project for my last semmester of culinary school. It's a little off the topic of cakes, but it's kind of a funny project...You have to sculpt something out of SHORTENING (SPS) then it gets used as a centerpiece for a buffet. I personally preffer ice sculptures, they're MUCH prettier to look at then a big ol' blob of fat...it's not really good, or detailed but I thought you guys might get a chuckle out of it. And, hey...if you're ever having a tough time making fondant figures, just give shortening a try...you'll go running back to fondant so fast it will make your head spin...LOL ![]()

kelleym...
you don't keep it from melting in your hands...LOL That's why I have a whole new respect for fondant...
and Janek...keeping everything cool (including your temper...) helps alot. You work on it for a while and then put it in the fridge and have a snack...work on it some more etc...LOL
Never saw anything like it before! Really unique and great looking.
Wow!
That's pretty neat...and made out of SHORTENING!!! Now that takes talent! WTG!!! ![]()
Nope...no more shortening sculptures
is my favorite medium of expression...mind you, you can't throw a cake into an empty deep fryer and make tasty french fries or chicken wings...maybe my dragon will come in handy after all...
...humm
I'm hungry...
Congratulations on getting through Culinary School!
I am a first-year student at my school, and we get into doing ice sculptures next year....I hope it's easier that shortening! You did a FANTASTIC job!!!! A+ from me ![]()
I have always been amazed at the butter sculptures I have seen at the Ohio State Fair, lifesize! Great job with your dragon. Here is a link for anyone who would like to look at an artist that does lifesize butter sculpture.
