That is a great red I think!

Not sure how you mixed in your colors, but i find it easier to color my melted MM before I add the Powdered sugar. You can easily cut your recipe in half if you don't need a lot of one color. Coloring your melted MM doesn't take as much color and when you add your powdered sugar it doesn't change the shade of color either (which I was quite leary about at first)

HTH

p.s. as for that black buttercream I suggest starting with either chocolate or coloring your white BC brown first, then add your black color-won't take as much coloring to get it dark then.

Leily, I just had a "red" and black design and never achieved a real red. I'll try making a batch of red, using your method (I use MMF all the time).

And, Sweet as Tisse, that is a good red. Congratulations! A very hard color to achieve.

Just wanted to share what the finished cake ended up like....

its a last minute order (why are all last minute orders for the worst colors to achieve in a short time icon_confused.gif ) for an 18th birthday.

silly me practically gave this one away... icon_cry.gif

choc mud with ganache filling and black chocolate buttercream...

thanks

"leily"..I read the tip that you gave about adding color to the mm first. Thank you for sharing!!! I'm so excited..I am going to try that. Now that I know that it won't change the color before you add powdered sugar..and to "sweet as tisse" ..I think the color red is great!!!

This is how I color my MMF, too. Makes it SO easy to get the color you need.

Thank you everyone for your comments and advice about achieving colors...

I do always color my marshmellow after melting as i know this is how you achieve the color you are looking for....

Thats how i got the red and black colors for the cake. some people think that the powdered sugar will change it, but i have never had this happen it always stays the same as it was before adding the sugar. (the mmf that is).

great cake!

I also color my mmf before adding the powdered sugar, but find that it does lighten a bit...so I just make it a touch darker than I need!
