For the last year or so, I've been joking to my family that if I ever have my own cake shop, I'm going to name it "No Pies". Simply because I'm not really good at making pies, and they really aren't fun for me. Case in point.....Thanksgiving pies.

I went to the store, bought everything on my list, returned home determined to make the pies I'm supposed to bring to dinner tomorrow night. I sprawl everything out on the counter, start mixing things up, and realize...NO brown sugar!! Back to the store I go. Come home, and finish mixing everything up. As I remember, last year when I made this recipe, it made two pies. I look at the mixture and thing "Hmmmm...this looks like it will fit in one pie". DUMB!! Duh, tried that last year and it didn't work what makes me think it will work this year?!?! Put the top layer on the pie, and it overflows. Oh well, put the pie in the oven, and think "Gee, that top looked funny". Re-look at my recipe, and didn't put enough cream cheese on the topping. UGH!! So, I think to myself "Well, it will be just fine". Pull the pie out of the oven after baking for 15 extra minutes...gee pie doesn't look done. Think "Maybe as it cools, it will firm up". NOPE, wrong again. So, needless to say, 11:00, run to Walmart, get all new ingredients for the pies, and start all over again!! Pies are now in the oven, and if it doesn't work this time......I'm making cake!!

NO PIES!!

I feel for you. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia but if we did I would request cake instead of pies. Hang in there and hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hee Hee! That is why I stick to nice easy ones--apple and a cherry/raspberry pie. If I am in a good mood and have time, I will do a french chocolate silk pie, but that does not happen often.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!!!

No Pies is my motto too! I can't make them unless I use a store bought frozen crust. Pumkin Pie is about the only filling I CAN do. Now cheesecake is another story.

I was assigned to dessert this year. ALL the deserts. I don't make pies either. So I made a cheesecake, fudge, cookie sandwiches, and oreo bon bons. That's right, no cake. I've been constantly harassed about why I'm not making a cake for thanksgiving and nobody in my family seems to get that while I love making cakes, I get paid to make them all the time and sometimes I just want cheesecake!!! Is that so much to ask?

I have to say, as I made my last trip to Walmart, and walked by the pies, I was very tempted to just buy a couple of them!! icon_wink.gif However, my dad's SO always requests the "frosted" pumkin pie, and I promised I make them, so here I am....midnight....baking pies!! icon_sad.gif
