do a lot of you use it? this is my second time using it and i am not a fan so far! i find it tears so easily. it doesn't matter if i roll it out thick or thin.
it tastes MUCH better than the wilton but i think the wilton is so much easier to work with.
i'm thinking of trying satin ice but if its just like pettinice, i'm going to look for another option. ![]()
I agree Satin Ice is much easier to work with and tastes great. The chocolate tastes almost like fudge.
I use Pettinice to make my gumpaste and from time to time to cover dummies for competition. Try adding a little glycerin to your fondant to help it stretch. Like most things, batches can vary, so if you but Pettinice again, it might be different.
Satin Ice is much, much softer. Depending on where you live, this might be the way to go. I can't use it because I have extremely warm hands (97F on a digital thermometer) and most melt in my hands.
Since it's getting cooler outside, it's going to take more work to warm it enough to get it smooth. Try putting in the microwave on low for about 30-50 seconds (depending on the amount).
If you're up to it and have a heavy duty mixer, making your own is not hard and it's much cheaper. It's also easier to color and/or flavor to your liking.

hmmm.... i might attempt making my own one of these days. that will eliminate the whole kneading color issue also. i can't stand kneading color into large amounts of fondant. it puts me in a bad mood. ![]()
i had to buy the ivory pettinice and knead brown color into it because the cake i made was spice and i felt the chocolate flavor would have clashed.
grrrrr..... i'm making a turkey cake for tomorrow with the round sports ball pan and everything about it is driving me crazy! ...the round ball cake, the pettinice, kneading color into an entire batch of fondant, at this point - the turkey head looks like a male body part ![]()
(i haven't added the beak or face yet)
one little turkey cake for the family is turning into quite the production!!
anyway, thanks for all the info and help everyone! ...and for letting me vent just now.
