Wow, what a day already! Got up early to start baking & doing the desserts. I was in the middle of making Tiramisu when I reached in the cupboard for coffee & we were out. Oh well. DH was in the area so he said he'd bring me some. All I needed was a cup. He got 2 streets away from our house when the fire tones went off (he's a fireman). It was a house fire. This is the worst time of year for house fires. We haven't had one in about 6 months. I'm a volunteer firefighter too so off we went to the fire. When we got there it was fully engulfed. Then a neighbor came up to me & told me they thought the grandma was still inside!! We fought & fought to get to the bedrooms but couldn't because the fire was too hot. Finally thank God another neighbor came & said that Grandma had left about an hour before the fire started! No one was in the house!! The house was a total loss. We did wind up saving a little doggie! Poor thing was in his cage. The cage melted on top of him, he had hard melted plastic on his back but no burns! He'll be fine!

I just had to post this because I am so thankful for our firemen & women, medics & police!! Thankful for my family & friends~ Thankful that grandma wasn't inside this house!! We have so much to be thankful for. I hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving Holiday~ God Bless~ thumbs_up.gif

What are you thankful for?? I thought this would be a good thing to talk about~ thumbs_up.gif

TC! Bless you and your husband for what you do. Thank you both!

I hate to hear about house fires around the holidays and it seems like there's some every year. (Cooking, heaters, etc.)

And Hooray for the pup being saved! thumbs_up.gif

I'm thankful for my grandmother still being with us. She was in the hospital for over a month, complications from colon cancer, pneumonia, diabetes....Wasn't expected to live back in October and she's still fighting and getting rehabilitated in a nursing home. And will be able to go to her home tomorrow for 3 hours.

I'm just grateful for Life.

Argh Tina! Now I feel bad about complaing to you earlier about my not so busy day! Glad you were there to help the poor little doggie. You are a superhero all around!! thumbs_up.gif

Hmmm... I'm thankful that I have not killed my husband.... icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Seriously, thankful for my family that even despite the fact we cannot have all that we would love to have, we have each other and make do with what we do have. I'm thankful for the fact that I still have a job even though we just had a re-org and I really got the short end of the stick. icon_sad.gif But, I do still have my job, so that is good.

Thanks to you and your husband for being there when we need you. My son inlaw is a police officer in a nearby town and I worry about him much of the time, as I am sure your families are concerned about the two of you. It takes special people to do this type of work.

What would we do without people risking it all to help others???? I thank the lord for our fire and police departments plus military and others doing it daily.

Ironbaker, I'm so happy that your G'ma is doing better! I bet she was glad to be around her family AND I bet that made her want to fight more! I said I prayer for her I hope she will get better soon~

Missy, you never complain! Your a sweetheart!! Not being able to have what we want to have keeps us humble! I truly believe that thumbs_up.gif So glad you still have your job too. I hope things will get better for you. You deserve the best!

Shirley, Try not to worry about your son so much. He is well trained & I'm sure he can handle anything that comes his way. I have so much respect for our police! They handle a lot & do it well!

mkolmar, Amen sister! I forgot to mention military!! There are a lot of folks away from thier families right now. I hope they come home safely & soon!

I'm thankful for getting to spend 2 days with my son! That doesn't happen very often. He is 19 & is usually running around with friends & doesn't find time for mom anymore. DD caught a cold right before Thanksgiving so her & my DH didn't stay the night with my folks like we usually do so it was just me & my son. I enjoyed every minute with him. So thankful to have had that time! Thankful for my family too! Gosh, I hated to come back home today!! thumbsdown.gif

Wow, that was nice to say SwampWitch. I'm humbled~ Hope you don't think I'm crazy but where is Vancouver Island? British Columbia? My geography is horrible! With a name like SwampWitch I was hoping you were from Louisiana, sounds like a Louisiana girl~ icon_smile.gif My first thought was I've got to get her to come to a Day of Sharing here! thumbs_up.gif

I'm a native Texan living in Victoria, B.C. Canada, so your geography is better than you think! I always thought Vancouver was on Vancouver Island until I found out we were moving here.

I wish I could come visit you, I'm bummed that my husband has been travelling for nine hours and I just found out he's stuck in Vancouver because it's SNOWING there... how often does that happen? Once a year? Anyway, I haven't seen him in 16 days, I made a special dinner, have the fire going in the fireplace, and he just called that his 15 minute flight from Vancouver to Victoria has been delayed. He's trying to get another but it doesn't look good for coming home tonight... I'm bummed.

Anyway, I have much respect for people like you who risk their lives to save people's possessions, pets, and lives! You do something I could not do, but boy, am I glad there are people like you around.

Cheers, from

My parents had 2 house fires by the time I was 14 years old (neither one was their fault) so there is a high level of appreciation in our house for those folks!

The first one, the water pipes had frozen in the winter and the landlord, who was prone to be a "little" tipsy throughout the day, laid a blowtorch under the house to melt/thaw the frozen pipes..... then he left!! The 2nd one, they rented a 2 story house that the landlord had installed a mobile home furnace, so combined with an improperly installed flue and an overworked furnace, the house caught fire.

We start our Thanksgiving Day with "I'm thankful for....." and this year I was thankful for my kids! This was the 1st time in 4 years that I had all of my kids with me! My son just finished his 4 years in the Marines, with 2 tours of Iraq and came back a twice decorated war hero! We had a 30-lb turkey, a full house, and a great holiday!
