I have three cakes due Saturday (how did I get myself into that one? icon_eek.gif ) None are paid either icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif One is a two tier fruit cake that will have a gumpaste topper (which is already made) and flowers.

When can I decorate the fruit cake? I guess you can do this in advance? It would be great if I could get stated on this today (it's Wednesday here).

Can someone please advise me?

Thanking you

Traditional fruit cakes that are decorated, are brushed with rum or brandy, then covered with marzipan, then fondant.

I would think you could start today, providing you are covering the cake in fondant to seal in the moisture.

Fruit cakes can be decorated weeks in advance, provided you have sealed the cake with Marzipan or something similar. I don't like Marzipan & I have used an Apricot jam glaze instead which works well.
I still love a good fruit cake, even tho I have lived in the USA for 20 years & still make one for Christmas for old times sake.
