I am going to be driving to Hot Springs, AR, from the Dallas area for Thanksgiving (about 4 hrs). I am providing the cake for Thanksgiving dinner and can't decide the best way to get it there. It's not a huge cake - double layer 10" chocolate, crusting cream cheese icing, covered in MMF.

My options are: 1) complete the cake here and CAREFULLY transport it or 2) take all the pieces and requisite supplies and tools and put it all together there.

What would you do? TIA.

I would probably assemble it there. I would worry about the cream cheese personally. It will be warm in your vehicle and I would not want to take a chance of it either melting or souring.

You could refridgerate the cake overnight, and remove just before leaving. If it's only a 10" I think it would be fine. Maybe stick a couple dowels in it. You could maybe fit it in a cooler if you had a larger one.

You're going to be in my neck of the woods!

I would say assemble when you get there. I am not sure how you'll be going into Hot Springs, but it is a pretty curvy road. Have a great trip!

I'd say make it, stick it in the fridge and take it out right before you leave. Of course this is from someone who took a stacked wedding cake 300 miles through towns, road construction and over gravel roads. icon_lol.gif
