Stacking Cake Tips

Does anyone have any tips to stacking cakes w/o smudging the frosting on the bottom layers that your stacking the other layer on?

Try a search of the forums-you will find lots of info, tips, tricks.

But:

push your dowels all the way down, pull them back up so when you set the top tier down you'll have time to get your fingers out of the way!

I do what dodibug said - i'm still hoping to find a better way though.
