does anyone know if you can purchase styrofoam cake dummies at michael's or a.c. moore? or do you have to get them at specialty cake shops or online?

also, is styrofoam the only option?

I've never been able to find cake dummies at craft stores. I tried to cut some down once, but I just made a mess.

I recently purchased from Dallas Foam and was very pleased with their prices and fast shipping.

I don't want to hijack this post, but, do you all think that cake dummies are beneficial. I have been wanting to order some and not sure if I should. Do you use them alot?

They are a BLAST to decorate, because you can play with them forever.

I've got a closet full waiting for a big bridal festival, and I set up a 6, 10, 14" set in fondant and decorated them 13 different ways in about 2 hours with just ribbons and silk flowers...now I'm piping embroidery on them and having a ball.

Definitely beneficial for lots of practice and 'non-cake' times...

Dummies are pretty entertaining...the styrofoam type too. icon_biggrin.gif It's nice if you dont want to have to bake a cake just try out a new technique and see how it looks. They can save you quite a bit of time and effort

I just did three holiday dummies for a local auction. The winner has their choice of one in time for Christmas. This way, I got to show some of my cakes(to about 150 people) without the worry of freshness.
