I usually crumb coat my cake first. I place a thin layer of buttercream on my cake and let it dry then I ice it.

Good Luck

Hi there, fellow Ontarian! I'm in Cambridge, I used to work in Georgetown. If you crumb coat next time (a very thin first coat, wait at least 15 mins. or so) and then do your final coat you should be fine! icon_smile.gif

Just did my first Wilton Cake Class cake and posted it this week. I had an awful time with crumbs in the icing. I was so upset and didn't want to take it to class. I let it dry and then put another layer of thin BC on...used the Melvira roller method to smooth it and folks were in awe in class. I posted it.... Others in class had crumbs in the icing and some got angry and scraped it all off and brought it like that. I wanted to throw mine against the wall.....LOL! My husband kept saying "it's just a cake, it's just a cake...." . I said "no it's not....".... LOL! I think I am getting "cake brain"! But really, wasn't he blasphemous? LOL!!!!
