I started messing around with chocolate modeling clay a couple of weeks ago when I nailed down the idea for my daughter's birthday cake. I made some roses and also decided to see if I could made a cinderella. I made a 'dummy' just to see if it would work and was pretty happy with the results. The one in the pic took about 3 days of working off and on (my hands are very hot so I had to keep taking breaks to let it harden and dry again), mostly at night. I made the clay, used candy colors specifically for Candy Melts, and used a wooden dowel rod to put the chocolate on, made it a lot easier to hold and I used a long neck soda bottle to hold it when I needed to put it down. It's not perfect, her arms are kinda 'meaty'
, and her eyes are a little like Marilyn Monroes, plus I couldn't get her lips just right so once the chocolate had hardened and dried again I used a food marker. But all in all, I'm excited that it worked, my daughter was absolutely thrilled and I can't wait to try some other things-this week I'm making a cake for a friend's daughter and I thought I would try to make a little crown ![]()

I also used it to make a calla lily (in my gallery) and again, happy with how it turned out, better than I hoped!
Congratulations! The cake looks great. I would love to be able to use choc clay but I have a really bad case of hot hands - it always melts on me. ![]()
Great job!
Looks great. I haven't tried chocolate candy clay or any candy clay yet. I'm thinking of trying to make a tiara out of white chocolate for a cake the end of the month. I always use fondant, but am always open to new suggestions. Did it seem to work better than the fondant?
Very cute cake. I have hot hands too and am not patient enough to stop and let things harden before hopping back to work. Though I'd love to try this. Now if we could just find a cure for those HOT HANDS!!!
I used this recipe from Wilton:

It looks really weird once you get it mixed but if you let it cool completely you can knead it all together.
