I have a lady that is asking me to decorate some cookies for her for Christmas. I love doing cookies, so of course I said "SURE". icon_lol.gif Then she tells me that she doesn't want sugar cookies. HUH??? icon_confused.gif She said that she wanted Shortbread Cookies, and she wants them decorated. icon_surprised.gificon_confused.gificon_eek.gif Is that even possible?

If anyone has ever done this before and knows a wonderful recipe.... I would truly appreciate you sharing it with me. If you don't that's fine too.... prayers are needed just as badly. icon_biggrin.gificon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks guys!!!!

Yes, you can... they are firm enough to hold decorations and they are NOT bumpy like CHocolate Chips.. they are smooth like Sugar Cookies.. icon_smile.gif

I have mede them before and they are great! Here is a recipe from All recipes.

Be light on the icing though, you still want to taste all the great butter!

jekizer,

I think you'll be just fine.

Sugar cookies are great; but they're not the only cookies that can be decorated.

There's butter cookies and spritz cookies, etc.

Shortbread (the pound cake of cookies) is a fairly hard cookie so it lends itself to decorating.

What exactly did the customer have in mind?

These recipes call for making drop or ball cookies - but you can just as easily roll them out.

If you can't decide between the recipes, I'd be happy to taste them and give my opinion!

I would let her taste the No Fail Sugar Cookies. I use a european butter in mine and everyone tells me they taste more like a shortbread cookie than a sugar cookie.

Can you use any type of icing with these cookies?

I would think that would depend on what type of decoration she wants.

If she wants them to look like the santas, snowmen, etc. with all the details; I'd go with:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Recipes&sort=recipename&sort_dir=ASC&op=search&chname=X&chingredients=X&searchtext=royal+icing&cat_id=-1&x=23&y=8

If you don't want to make lots of colors for the details; use food writer pens.

puzzlegut, has used premade frosting (not RI) from GFS (Gordon Food Service) for her cookies with success:

If your customer just wants round frosted, pretty cookies ; I'd pipe swirls, etc.,in crusting butter cream that's been stiffened a tad.

P.S. At last, my begging for samples has worked!!!

so did anyone try the shortbread recipe for cookie decorating? I have a friend that does not want sugar cookies and wants shortbread as well... but she wants them decorated for a power ranger theme party... help? recipes? tips?

I was reading some of the recipes from above but none of them were really decorated like sugar cookies and said not to be cut too big or they will crumble.
