I decided to do some practice decorating with the NFSC I made over the weekend. I had some white icing that I had bought from GFS awhile ago and decided to use that. I was able to use it to pipe outlines on the cookie and then I thinned it down so I could easily spread it on the cookie. I let the cookies sit out for awhile and they harded up enough that they could be bagged/packaged and they could stack on top of each other. But the icing is also soft enough when you push your finger into it hard or when you bite down into it. About the only thing I noticed with it was when I tried using a small star tip and the shape wasn't as good as what I normally get from buttercream. I'm not sure if this is typical of cookie icing, but maybe I could add a little powdered sugar to it next time to firm it up.

Anyway, I think the icing from GFS turned out good and when I do my cookie bouquet next month, I plan on using it. Just wanted to let all of you know in cause anyone wants to try it. I tried to do an attachment of the cookies I decorated using the white icing, but I wasn't able to do so.

I googled www.gfs.com and came up with a site for Gordon Food Service.

I just looked them up. The closest location they have to me is in Pittsburgh, PA. I live in Allentown, which is about 5 hours away.

Maybe I can get someone from that area to pick some up for me to try. We have a Day of Sharing coming up early next month.

puzzlegut,

Your GFS has so much more GOOD stuff than mine.

Heck, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have been able to order the Sweetex from my GFS.

So, for the frosting.... Is that something that is out or did you have to special order.

I know for sure the only icing/frosting that mine carries is the Rich's bettercreme, and the two Rich's whipped toppings.

Again, if you would be so kind as to provide the item number, then I'll be able to order some.

THANKS SO MUCH icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Look forward to seeing those cookies and that cookie bouquet. thumbs_up.gif

Are these huge quantities of icing and Sweetex, or do they sell small quantities, also?

GFS is Gordon Food Service.

They sell restaurant-supply type stuff, but they're open to the public. Lots of neat stuff there, both supply type and ingredients.

tmriga,

The Sweetex came in a 50# cube.

I don't know what size the icing/frosting is; I was going to ask when I stopped at the GFS order desk.

I should have been more specific. GFS stands for Gordon Food Services.

The icing is a regular item that they are suppose to carry everyday; you shouldn't need to special order it like you would the Sweetex. If I recall, it's located in their baking area, probably near the cake mix and such. It's in a 6 lb white tub and if I recall, it was like $6-$8.

puzzlegut,

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking it would be refrigerated/frozen... for some reason.

Well, that certainly sounds like a great deal icon_biggrin.gif

Sam's Club USED to carry large buckets of fondant or frosting and sprinkles but that was at least a year ago, before I became seriously interested in the decorating aspect of baking. tapedshut.gif

Here are a couple pics of the cookies that I decorated using the white icing from GFS. Try to not laugh too hard at how bad they are decorated.
