Well this is my first carved cake. I carved the helmet and football. First time making ropes out of gumpaste, that did not go so well, would love tips on how to do that easier. I let it dry for a couple days but it cracked when I put it on. Was kind of a snug fit trying to fit around football, should have placed helmet first with grill then added football. I am hoping it holds up to the weight, I must of used 15 straws under them and even used a scewer on outside of edges, because cake overlapped. Probably should have been on a bigger cake might have made it easier. This is a 12 x 12 square lemon with rasp filling. The helmet was a 6 in round with half ball on top carved, football is two oval (from wilton 2 course) both are chocolate with cookies and cream filling. I am getting 40.00 for this, did not charge as much due to it being my first time. Would like to know what others think I should charge, still have no clue on the charging thing. I would like advise on making carving easier.
I carved before I filled and then just touched up, it this the best way. cakes were frozen when carved. Thanks for the help.
I think you did great, the helmet is perfectly round! It also sounds like you learned a lot about the process and that's important too! Way to go!
I would really like comments on this cake please, good bad indifferent
Cute cake. That's an awful lot of work for just $40. You should have gotten paid alot more.
This Longhorn thinks you did an AWESOME job
It looks like you really worked hard so I would have probably charged a little more too.
I agree with the other comments--sounds like a lot of hard work and you should have got paid more. The helmet looks great and the football looks good too--but the shape looks off just a tad--but hey who am I to say--I could never have done this good. I bet your customers loved it and were happy to get such an awesome cake for such a good price.
