I have 6 dozen cupcakes baked in nut and party cups with a swirl of aqua buttercream, sprinkled with course sugar and topped with a white chocolate shell dusted with luster dust. I also have 90 petite fours (cut from an 11" x 15" sheet) two layer white cake filled with pineapple buttercream and pineapple preserves - each 1" x 1.5" x 1" tall. I'm having a hard time with pricing. I'm thinking $1.50 ea for the cupcakes and $1 ea for the petite fours? These are for a friend that caters and she gives me business when she has a bride or other customer that needs / wants a cake.

Thanks!
Debbie

Well - I delivered the six dozen cupcakes with luster dusted white chocolate shells (72 cupcakes) and 90 petit fours this morning. I asked $200 for all of it. The friend was "fine" but her husband was obviously and vocally unhappy with the price. I'm sure they'll get everything elsewhere next time. Do you think that was unreasonable?

Well, I have no actual experiance in this, but I think htat pricing sounds more than fine. I just think people aren't used to custom products and always expect to hear grocery store pricing. Don't let it get to you. Maybe talk to her and try and say that you hope that she wasn't too taken aback by the pricing since you hadn't discussed it before hand; and that you would love to continue to help her out, but maybe before hand you could work out pricing so everyone is happy. No need to let it go at...she will probably never use me again...you can make it work out icon_smile.gif

I don't know about the petit fours, but my cupcakes are $1.50 and then with the luster dusted white chocolate shells I would have done at least $2 depending on the size of the shell and the brand of chocolate used.

Thanks! I've decided that i'm comvortable with what I charged. She was very nice and professional mentioning simply that they were over budget on the desserts and pulling out a pricing sheet for comparison for future reference. Her husband was visibly upset and not very professional but did try through the aggravation to be nice - wishing my son good luck in his soccer game before we left. I kept hearing "we only paid xxx for french pastries" and "they were just cupcakes". I may have worked with her on the price but not under those aggravated circumstances.

You did a LOT of work for that amount of money. Husbands just don't understand sometimes unless they are OUR husbands and know how hard we work and the hours we put in to make others happy. I think if they look around, they will KNOW they can't get a better price or product anywhere. They sound terrific!

$1 each for petite fours? No way. And for the doofus hubby.. I'd have charged more. Sir.. your french pastries were most likely frozen before you got them.. icon_mad.gif I charge $1.50 each for a basic cupcake (vanilla or chocolate) iced with plain BC with rainbow sprinkles.. the shell would have added more as would the custom coloring and corse sugar. You are comfy with the price and that is what is important, but you don't want to set a precident that is too low for you to see any real profit. Those petite fours are a PAIN in the tush and a lot of work. Cupcakes are a lot of work too. Just cupcakes.. psht! What a poo head. thumbsdown.gif
