I'm not sure how I missed this. I just finished decorating the cake for tomorrow afternoon's wedding, double checked the contract for the design and realized that the order was for offset squares and I made all rounds!! I swear I looked at that paper 10 times between yesterday when I baked and today and my eyes passed by that little fact wach time! Well needless to say I am not going to rebake, recover it in fondant and decorate a new cake b/c of the shape. the bride is from florida so I don't have a phone number for her. I sent her an email and told her about the mistake and that I was going to leave a check for $100 (roughly the delivery and topper charge) in her card box. The cake flavors are all correct, covered in a metallic blue fondant and white decos with bow topper, just wrong shape!!! So this is technically not a disaster as long as the bride doesn't freak out. she didn't seem to be the type, but you never know! I'm not gonna sweat it right now. If she's happy great, if not then I 'll deal.

Everyone makes mistakes and it sounds like you are handling it very well. She may even like the new design better than what she originally wanted. Let us know how it turns out.

Well, like I try to remind myself all the time when a mistake is made - we're all human and mistakes are a part of life since we're not perfect. Hopefully the bride will be of the same opinion.

Wishing you luck!

my only question is will there still be enough servings? If you baked the same size cakes except in round then you will be missing a lot of servings because a 14" square cake yields alot more than a 14" round.

I wish you the best with the bride!

Oooh, leily, good point! cykrivera, you might want to make her a sheet cake in addition to the partial monetary refund.

The cake will serve 120. I used larger rounds then I would have squares. The sizes ended up being 14, 12, 8, 6 (saving top) instead of whatever it would have been in squares. The delivery was great. The cake looked beautiful as well as the rest of the site. The blue cake looked great with all of her linens. Of course I pull out my camera to take a pivture and my rechargable battery was dead! I took a picture with my sister's phone and then talked to the photographer for a while and he gave me his card so I can get some pics. The coordonator was extremely nice and I gave her the card and explained what happened. She said she would make she the bride got the card and we both agreed that the bride was very nice and would most likely not be upset. So we'll see.

lol about the spelling my 2 year old does the same thing whenever she sees me at the computer. Well it seems like even though you made a mistake that it wasn't a total disaster. I do hope that all turns out well. keep us posted

When my daughter's wedding day came and I saw the cake it wasn't anything like we ordered. I started tearing up icon_cry.gif and wanted to take the cake lady's head off. icon_mad.gif I don't remember ever having been under such stress. We had hundreds of guests coming, a few minor things had gone wrong (like they do at any wedding) and the cake was just the last thing. But then my wise daughter came up to me, gave me a glass of wine, and said "Mom, it's just a cake." Thank goodness she kept her head when I was about to lose mine. I'm sure your bride was as gracious as my daughter was and by the way, we didn't get any kind of refund. You did the right thing. thumbs_up.gif
