$50.00- but that was a "tip"- oh well, someday !!!
wedding cake was ........400.00 for basic cake with shells on pillars i know boring ......( i hardley ever do wedding cakes)
birthday cake 100.00 ..............
cupcakes 35.00 a dozen.......or 3.00 each
I am finally getting better at pricing what I feel my cakes are worth! Here's what finally cured me of underpricing...
A lady called me and said her daughter was getting married in 4 weeks and their cake lady backed out. I met with her and her daughter and they picked the wilton cake that has 11 cakes!
Then she wanted me to incorporate in the design names, dates, songs, sayings that were special to the couple and then brush on edible glitter to ALL the accents on ALL 11 cakes!!
(I think I charged her $475)
It was soooo time consuming. But to see the bride and mother cry when they saw the cake, made it seem all worthwhile. UNTIL......I saw the mother the week after the wedding and she went on and on about how gorgeous and delicious the cake was and said, "Honey, you just don't charge near enough for your cakes! We were prepared to pay at LEAST $800 for that cake!" What?? ![]()

Deep down I knew I wasn't charging enough....and that confirmed it!! (She still could have given me a nice little "tip" then, since I technically saved her over $300!!! ![]()
)
So far my most expensive cake was the Bath Tub cake. I charged $75.00 for that one. Mostly because I was trying to deter the customer from wanting it done LOL But after I completed it I was glad I did it. I was afraid I couldn't do it.
I also made a wedding cake that I would have charged $250.00 for but it was my gift to the Bride and Groom. After I made the cake I changed my mind at how much I would charge to do this wedding cake again... $500.00!! It was a LOT of work!! ![]()

so far $46 on a single cake. I was going to charge $70 on one I did but I gave them a discount because I owed them a favor. Today though I made $48 on a puppy cake and cupcakes. I think I should have charged more, it took me awhile do to the puppy cake. Oh well, I am learning. At least I am not doing them for free anymore.
geez kritian does that even cover your costs???
I have an order for March for a wedding of 80 cupcakes with Cherry blossom flowers on top of each cake. I am charging $375 for it. SHe thought it was an awesome deal.
I have a cake for 80 people for next week which is $125. It is a sheet cake with a lawn bowl on top (Australian sports thing) .
But most of my cakes are done as gifts for family and friends...it gets my portfolio going.
I made a cake alst week for 30 people of a little soccer guy and charged $50 for it.
I keep getting told how cheap my prices are but I feel bad asking for much more. I only said $375 for the wedding cake becuase I hate making the cherry blossoms.
The most I ever received was $52 for the baby blocks and dozen cupcakes in my photos. A close second was $50 for the basketball graduation cake I made.
$125 for the purse/handbag in my photos. And, $125 for the Alabama Cake also in my photos. I felt guilty b/c the ingredients didn't cost much but, I invested a lot of time. The customers that paid these prices are the kind of people that will pay to have something that stands out.
I agree. You under-priced. I would have charged a min. of $25.00.
When I was in high school a little neighborhood store had an 80th birthday party for the woman who owned the store and basically invited all customers to celebrate with them. My brothers played hockey with her grandchildren and they knew I was making selling cakes to all the "hockey folks" at that time, so they asked if I would make the cakes for the celebration.
I did 25 18" round cakes with simple decorations (roses, simply writing, cornilli lace, etc..) Plus a huge tiered cake with a fountain and the largest BC roses you've ever seen, with 80 pink and white striped candles tied with tiny pink ribbons. They paid me $1,000 for that.
Kristin, I think you are way off base! You could easily get $35.00 for that Turkey cake! Re evaluate.... ![]()
I'll have to dig up some pictures to scan in of those cakes, I know I don't have any that are really good though of course. Waaaay before digital cameras!!! ![]()
And I definitly agree that you need to be charging more Kristin! That cake is so cute, what size is it? At least $35....
My latest cake that I made was the most I have gotten so far - (it's only the second cake I've sold even though I've made a ton of cakes!) But it was the stadium cake and I sold it for $125. It was a huge cake and I probably could have gotten more but she's a good friend and now she owes me a favor !! LOL
I charged $80 for the Underwear cake in my photos.
The Nachos, pumpkin, baseball caps, and the Colette Cake are some of the ones I'm most proud of and the ones I could have charged a lot more for but I did them all as freebies!

I LOVE your use of Skittles as the football crowd!!! Very ingenious!! Great attention to detail.

LittleBigMomma and others will probably agree with me that baking the cake is the easy part; it's the time spent decorating that will kill ya ![]()
Great work!!
