I was browsing through the cake gallery to get inspirations for an upcoming bridal shower cake and in one of the descriptions the decorator said she didn't have an airbrush so she just put the pearldust on her finger and blew it onto the cake. My questions is can you use your airbrush to put dry pearldust on your cake and if so how do you do this?

To my understanding you must mix pearl dust with some kind of alcohol liquid to put it in an airbursh, it can not be dry powder. HTH

I just apply mine with a new blush brush from the make up aisle...

i take a paint brush and dip it in the dust then tap the brush with my finger lightly to allow the dust to fall onto the cake.

I would not do the blowing on the cake idea. On buttercream, you can use a new makeup brush to apply lightly. On fondant, it is more tolerable to the dusting. You could try using a small hairdryer on very low cool temp, put a little on your hand and use the dryer to blow on the cake, this would probably work better on buttercream. Of course the ideal way is mixing the dust with vodka and actually airbrushing on to the cake, you can cover more surface quicker then hand brushing.
