Does anyone find it difficult to find information they are searching for on here?
I don't ever get a good search result, and I know there has to be an article or recipe or forum about some of the stuff I'm looking for!

Am I doing a search wrong? I click search. Then, type in what I'm looking for. Like "royal icing" for example.

I love CC, and I'm staying forever, I just wanna do a better search! Tips, anyone?

do you put the quotes in the search? I've done that before and got weird results. I don't use quotes when I search anymore.

If you are searching for the royal icing recipe you have to click on the recipes tab then key in your search term. A lot of people (including me at first) was putting the search terms in the search box to the left of the screen but that is only to search the CC store for items for sale.

If you are searching topics then you click on forms and search and put in your search terms.

If you are searching pictures click galleries then serach and put in your search terms.

Hope it help.

I thought it was just me. I recently tried to search for ark in the pictures. Unfortunately, I got a ton of results because they included "dark". I'd like some tips on using the search feature more efficiently.

Mine is 50/50. Sometimes I find exactly what I want, other times I feel like I would be better scrolling thru everyday for the last year to find what I was looking for. My husband is the search wizard in our family, I usually ask him if it is something I need right away.

I've had real problems with this too. Sometimes I find what I want, but lately everything I try comes up zero icon_confused.gif . I really like to try to find the answers I need before I go asking so this is quite frustrating.

I was having the same problem until I started clicking on the "find all words" and "search topic titles only" buttons before I pressed search. I still don't find exactly what I'm looking for sometimes but more often npw than before.

I'm some glad to see it's not just me - I can't ever really find what I'm looking for. It would be great to get some advice on "how to search" in the forums.

I usually get a pretty good result - when I chosen the right words to search. I may have to go through a lot of similar posts, but the one tha tIm looking for is usually in the group.

When you do a search, there are two choices about the words to search for - use any and use all (or something like that). I use the "all" one for better results. Otherwise, the group of threads it returns is usually very large.

I have been getting so frsutrated with the search function. Yesterday I had a really hard time. Plus it came up with hundreds of results but when I tried to go to the next page to see more it would say page not found.

Yeah, I think there are some bugs in the software adding to our grief. I've been getting those error messages lately, too. I'm a very savvy computer user, a usually very good searcher, but sometimes I can't find what I *know* is (or was) here on the boards.

Case in point: I posted the white house gingerbread recipe for someone maybe a month ago. I spent a long time transcribing the instructions my mother had written. A couple weeks ago someone else was looking for a good gingerbread house recipe, and I went searching for my post. General search, the thread with my post doesn't appear. More specific search, nothing. "my posts" hmm, it's not there either. "watched posts" nope not there either. Search for all posts I've ever made, nope, not there either. The thread, so far as I can tell, completely dissapeared.

I didn't get a pm from a mod saying that the post had been deleted for some reason. I'm an attorney, and I know that nothing I did violated any laws or policies here at cake central, so there'd be no reason to delete the post or thread. It's just.... gone. I should go back and see if it's reappeared. icon_wink.gif

Most of the time I do have decent luck with searches. But sometimes there are clearly other things working against us. Just keep trying and do your best!

I have problems too when searching. I thought it was just me. I'm usually pretty good when I search for things on search engines like google or dogpile but when I try to search here all kinds of different things pop up. Not that I'm blaming anyone or this website..I just don't have the knack for it yet. icon_smile.gif

I have a tough time getting good search results too.
Though I'm going to try the "search titles only" option next time, that might help.

I'd bet it's hard for the search engine to pull up specifics when many many posts involve a lot of the same words, even when we're not really "talking " about them specifically.

90% of posts have "buttercream" or "recipe" and "meringue", so when looking for detaill about any it's a lot to sort through!

I can usually find an old post when I do it this way. For example, I was looking earlier how to print out a mirror image using Word. I went to the forums tab, clicked search, then typed in "mirror and image" without the quotes. This way it will pull up all posts with both words Mirror and Image. If you type in OR you will get posts with either word. Hope this makes sense.

I always have trouble finding what I am looking for as well. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I do what a lot of people here have suggested but still not a lot of luck. I am sure most of what I need is on this wonderful sight I just can't seem to find it icon_confused.gif I end up just asking my question and I am sure that is annoying to some but if I search a while and can't find it what's a girl to do thumbs_up.gif
