How do you charge for standard size decorated cupcakes. I got a call about an hour ago for 100 cupcakes decorated like xmas presents. I've never done cupcakes before other than for my family.
A standard 2 layer recipe will make how many cupcakes?
Has anyone made little present cupcakes before? If so I'd like to see pictures.

Ironically I was in this same boat this time last week...I had an order for 300 cupcakes. I got it done...I was able to bake in my oven 4 dozen at a time. Standard cake mix makes 2 dozen. It took about 39 cups of icing to icin them all! I think when it was all said and done, I have maybe 3 cups left over.

I live in VA, and I called a couple of local bakers, and the prices I got were varied...$1 each, $6 a dozen, and $7 a dozen. I charged $175 for the order. It took me about 7 hours to make them all...I made the icing the evening before, and then the next night just started baking, by the time the first baking was done, I started mixing the next batch, and had them ready for the oven as soon as the batch in came out.

I had 2 icing bags going at a time, when I emptied one, my dear boyfriend would pass me another one, and refill the one I had just emptied. My picture of the whole mess is posted in my gallery.

Good luck...hope the above information helps! You'll be just fine!

I charged $1 each for the Halloween cupcakes in my gallery. I certainly wouldn't go under that amount. The area you live in will determine how much you can charge. We rarely seen to get what we're worth, but we do it anyway because we love what we do! icon_smile.gif

I just did a 500 cupcake wedding last week. I charged the bride .60 cents (CAN) each, because there were so many. But I would not go that low again, it does take alot of time and work to do cupcakes. So next time I'll start charging at $1 each and go up from there.

I charge $25.00 for 2 dozen. If doing a CCC, I charge $1.10 each w/a minumum of 20 cupcakes.

I use one the the enhanced cake mix recipes from here on CC & I get 32 cupcakes per recipe.

I charge $1 a cupcake, unless there's a lot of work involved, and then I'll charge a little more.

I've not done present cupcakes, but do they need to be "3D" presents? If not, you could do a little flat square out of fondant and use a small round tip and pipe on a bow in BC...that wouldn't take too long.

I charge $7/dz for "simply" iced cupcakes and $15 for more elaborately decorated cupcakes that may include fondant toppers, flowers or royal icing handmade decorations! I just made some cupcakes for a wedding (150) of them. Each cupcake had a mum on top (photo in my gallery) and took forever to do. I charged $195, plus a refundable cake stand deposit and delivery/setup. Also, it depends on where you live, I would call some local bakeries and see what they charge!

My gosh it just seems like a whole lot of work for cupcakes that one would be considered a serving. So that means your price is $1 per serving. WOW a very good buy.

I agree. I have not done any fancy wedding cupcakes, but I've had several cupcake orders and have done fondant decorations, etc...when it's all said and done, a dollar a cupcake is not much at all for all the work I put in!!
