Was just wondering what everyone liked
(either at home, or dining out)
- that didn't have flour as an ingredient?
So no cakes, pastry, no-flour tortes (too cake-like), cookies, cream puffs, etc.!
Cheesecake is too easy - so no cheesecake either!
Mine would be: creme brulee with fresh raspberries or bananas foster.
Anyone else?
I love coconut... so any dessert with coconut will do.. at all times any times but my favorites are as follow: Coconut custard, flan, Candied Coconut Rice. yum yum!!!
frozen fruit salad....my grandma always cuts up and freezes fruit (during its good season) in ziplocks, and then for big dinners, or holidays, she grabs a bag of pears, bag of peaches, bag of strawberries, etc etc, throws in a fresh banana, or two and we eat the fruit salad as it is thawing...sort of a slush....soooo sooo good.........I could just eat the frozen pears like ice cream..........oh geez...now I am wishing I had some!
SweetMery,
I've never heard of candied coconut rice - can you describe it?
Sounds so much more exciting than rice pudding!
Mine is very simple.
It is heavenly hash. My aunt use to fix it before she passed, now I am the designated heavenly hash supplier.
It is very simple.
1 large container of coolwhip
2 large cans of fruit coctail in heavy syrup (drained)
1 large jar or marishino cherries (drained)
2 jars of walnuts in syrup (undrained)
mix it all up and chill it. It is soooo good and light and refreshing especially in the summertime!
is more or less like rice pudding!!! The only thing is sweeter!!
Here is the recipe!!!
Arroz Con Dulce
CANDIED COCONUT RICE
(Serves 12)
1½ cups rice
4¼ cups coconut milk
1½ teaspoons salt
3 cinnamon sticks
2 ounces ginger
6 whole cloves
Pinch of nutmeg-optional
1½ cups sugar
½ cup raisins
3/4 cup coconut milk (reserve to use at the end)
Wash rice and soak in water to cover, generously, for 2 hours. The rice will soak up the water so use plenty.
About twenty minutes before rice is finished soaking combine the 4½ cups of coconut milk, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg in a medium size caldero.
Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to moderate, cover and boil for 15 minutes.
Drain rice thoroughly and add to pot. Mix and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Reduce heat to low and cook unitl rice is completely dry, without stirring.
Add the sugar and raisins, stir, and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Reduce heat to low and cook for another 15 minutes, without stirring.
Add reserved 3/4 cup coconut milk and stir. Turn heat to moderate and boil for about 30 minutes, or until rice dries again. In this cooking period, turn rice over occasionally and scrape bottom of caldero.
Remove spices. Spoon rice into a flat serving platter. Allow to cool at room temperature.
This is served cold.

Coconut Custart & PR-Coconut Rice Pudding
MarieAnna
Tiramisu or my infamous baked chocolate cheesecake (which a don't make often as it contains a gazillion calories per slice, and I'm way too fat already!). I'll never turn down a pint of Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice-cream either
This one does contain some flour, but rhubarb crisp is my absolute favorite non-cakey dessert!
