My kids are in a small school and we are about to have our first Spelling Bee. I've been asked to help and depending on how much I end up helping, I've been thinking about offering to make a cake or cupcakes.

Any cute ideas relating to a Spelling Bee?

I've thought about doing simple words on cupcakes, like CAT, etc. I was also thinking of doing a Bee theme - I'm sure it'd be cute, but I'm not sure it really goes.

I say go with the Bee theme - that was my first thought and I think it would be really cute.

I would definitely have a bee on there somewhere.....a cute little bee thing to make is take a tootsie roll and cut it in four pieces...then take one of those little spice drops (yellow of course) cut it in half and then sandwich a piece of tootsie roll in between the two half of the spiced gum drops...putting the sticky cut side of the gum drop to the center so it helps the tootsie roll stick to it....then you just kinda smoosh them together and then used sliced almonds stick two of them into the tootsie roll center and then you can stick the bee directly on the cupcake or use a spaghetti strand and put it on that and stick that into the cupcake or even those little tiny pretzel sticks would work too...they make the most adorable bees...they kinda look rounded on the front end and flatter at the butt...they remind me of the bees you see on Winnie the Pooh stuff....really cute...and then maybe stick on some words on the cupcakes too.

Maybe have a little bee holding a paper / chalk board with the word CAT or whatever spelled out.

How about letters with bees on them. I did a little paintbrush pic, it is not very good but you can get the idea.

Those letters are so cute! They would make great MMF toppers for cupcakes! The letter cutters for the letters of course and then the small oval cutter for the bee and then add details of course. I love that idea!

If you have access to the small ball pans...or even the big ones...you can incorporate a bee like the one I did for a cake this summer..just an idea. icon_smile.gif

Thank you all for your brainstorming! I love those letters - that would be way cute. I'm still waiting to hear what is needed of me and how this thing is gonna go!
