I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but lately I've been seeing threads being "bumped" as little as 2 or 3 minutes after they are posted. If you read a post and cannot give an answer or help, leave it alone for a while, if it doesn't get any reply for a few hours, then bump it so somebody will see it and hopefully help out.

You know, if you are watching a subject yourself, you get a notice that there is a new post, you go to check it and all it is is "bump" it is kind of annoying, as it probably is to the original poster, so give the thread a chance, somebody is usually pretty quick to help, and if nobody does, then give it some help.

Heath recently posted this in answer to a slightly different question in this thread : http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-431411-.html#431411

Janice
I often go to the link "Unanswered Posts" to see if i can help out someone that may not have gotten an answer to their question. Giving someone a BUMP will remove them from this list, therefore ppl that go to the "Unanswered Posts" list wont be able to see it. I think bumps are a bit of a shame because of this.

Thanks, Nati, I've never even used the "Unanswered Posts" link myself, I will start doing that.

I think the bumps are useful, but we've kinda been overdoing it lately!

Thanks for the tip. Janice

To find "unanswered posts" go to the Forum Main Page, it is at the top of the page on the right, in really SMALL print.

If you go under the "Forums" tab at the top of the page there is a choice to "View unanswered posts" or "View posts since last visit" above the box with the list of forums on the right-hand side. The are listed in red. HTH

I usually try to view the unanswered posts in the mornings when I get a few free minutes.. I don't always know the answer to the questions but I'll bump it up to the top again just in case someone else online may know the answer... to me, it's just a courtesy thing to try and help icon_smile.gif I hate to see a lot of people not have their questions answered icon_smile.gif

I've been guilty of bumping mine a few times..... usually b/c there is NO response in awhile.... I guess I shouldn't if I want it to end up under "unanswered posts"..... sometimes I'm looking for an answer quickly and that's the worst..... or there seems to be soooo much activity going on (like the top posts change every 1-2 minutes) that I don't think anyone will see my question and I'm just trying to bump it to the top so people will see it - they can't answer it if they don't see it!

I sometimes wish we could "bump" our pictures..... I loaded some late one night and I was so proud and had worked so hard and I don't think anyone saw the picture.... I got one response..... but no others and I was really hoping for more of a response from people..... but I loaded the pic. late at night here and of course it's only in the top 4 or so on the side for a short period of time until someone else uploads their picture..... and if it got one comment, then it isn't in the "uncommented" section..... sooooo everyone needs to check out the "last commented" section of the galleries too or "last uploaded" so that people get more than one comment on their cakes icon_smile.gif Not that one comment isn't good.... the ones I got on that particular cake were very nice.... I had just hoped for some more feedback on what people thought of the cake.... good or bad icon_smile.gif

Bumping is when a post you made or someone else has made hasn't gotten answered.. someone will go into the post and just say "bump" to put it back in the top 4 or 5 posts you see when you first log in to CC... after so many posts, it will go down into each forum category and sometimes gets overlooked.

I agree with the frustration. I too have posted a picture, that doesn't get commented on because it got blown out by 6-7 different pictures of gumpaste flowers that were all being posted by the same creator. I was sad, because I worked really hard on the cake. But, I understand other people wanting to share their stuff too.

I never new about the view unanswered posts link. That is helpful. Glad to hear it exists But, since I just found out about it on this thread, and if this thread gets booted, then how will other people know about it? icon_smile.gif

There is a "last uploads" tab in the galleries. I use it all the time because it has all the pictures in the order they were uploaded. I don't want to miss any pictures! icon_smile.gif

Now I feel guilty. I've done the bump thing a time or two and I understand the frustration. I think this thread has cured me of this.
I do try to make comments in the gallery. I don't get on here as often as I like, but I think that all that is said on this site and all the pictures are all equally important. I love this site!
I even thought it would make a great home page for my computer!!!!! HINT HINT!!!!

I know what you mean!! I uploaded some pics and was hoping for some constructive feedback from cc'ers! It's disappointing when it gets to the land of the unviewed and uncommented!!. Now I always go to the last uploaded gallery because there's sooo many great cakes that fly by the home page!!

Just found this last week, it is awesome. Now I don't feel like I've missed anything when I'm forced to do laundry or other household chores.

I'm in agreement. I'm on her lots of times, but I never saw THAT before! icon_rolleyes.gif

I wonder if CC could put together a "tutorial" tab for newbies and anyone who might need a refresher course on "where to find it/how to do it (like uploading pics, inserting a link, etc.)"?

Just my thought, but I appreciate the question here about bumping ... took me a long time to figure out what a "bump" was, and now I find myself guilty of bumping when perhaps I shouldn't! icon_redface.gif This is good info to have in my pocket. Thanks.

I believe that 'bumping' is acceptable after a few hours when one really needs help, but as Heath has pointed out - no one post has more of a right on the front page than any other...
I will bump someone after a day or so, if I can't help and I feel their question needs to be answered...

I think I "BUMPED" once or 2x in the year and then some that I've been on here! ( pastrydiva in my past life)

It is frustrating to see a post that is bumped and bumped and bumped time and time again...when the person asking for help or asking a question can do a SEARCH and find the answer!!!

Do you THINK you're the ONLY one that has asked that particular question?? Not really!!!

Also, it burns my shorts when someone posts that they don't know the answer to someone's question and they can't help.

If you can't help...if you don't reply, I think the person asking can figure it out!!

If you don't know..don't respond, if you'd like to know..click on WATCH THIS THREAD

Just me, being mean again..lol

but sometimes it's just too hard to answer the same questions..over and over again.

I think they should begin by making a NEW FORUM....called:

PRICING

that one I will NEVER ever read...lol

I posted when I needed help pricing some cookies and I never really got a response on my questions, now did I think that was fair? Nope...when I see the responses other people get, did I get pissy..nah.

Just figured out that people are more than happy to pick my brain or benefit from what I know ( good or bad! lol) but are not willing to take the time to do the same for me.

That's just the way it is!

But, I do appreciate, those that have posted ANY replies to my questions!

I am sort of on the other side of the fence....I think a good luck or a I would also like to know the answer to this post is acceptable....I have seen a poster or two get upset because there have been 90 views of their question and no reponses....

personally bumps dont bother me.....I don't often use them myself (but I have) and I love seeing a variety of forums on the front page (anyone else wish there were like 10 instead of 5?).........

as for pictures...I really try to comment on pictures...I have seen so many photos where the pic is in 24 peoples favorites but has like 8 comments....especially if I like it enough for my favorites...you can bet I will comment....but even if there is just one thing that caught my attention...cool colors, cool design etc....I try to comment....cause who doesnt love comments on their pics!

I agree, I have noticed a large amount of bumping lately. I'm glad that you, veejaytx, pointed out Heath's response, because I don't think everyone saw that when when it was originally posted. I also think that if people don't know the answer, usually they won't post. I know I don't (I may be guilty of replying, stating I don't know the answer but had to comment on something else mentioned or shown in the original post, though). It may have been the luck of the draw at the moment that the question was posted--no one on-line at that time actually knows the answer. Wait a few hours, then either decide to give a bump, or just wait for someone to view unanswered posts (I've used that a number of times myself). If someone keeps bumping their post, to me they are making seem like their question is way more important than someone else's. Nope. And I think someone is taking a risk when they post a question that needs a response immediately--again, the luck of the draw if someone can answer right away--usually there is.

The one thing that bugs me, though, that I have seen a number of times is when someone posts a question, one person does take the time to answer and then the original poster does a bump with no thank you or any indication that they took the time to view the answer that was given to them. Nice way to appreciate the time that someone actually took to answer your question. thumbsdown.gificon_sad.gif

No, I am just kidding icon_lol.gif ! I read the response that was posted by Heath. I thought it made a lot of sense. Maybe a "forum etiquette" should be made and permanently posted at the top. Like the announcements. I do agree that we should all try to search for questions and be patient to wait for a reply. But I wont get my panties all in a bunch when I see the question about viva paper towels asked for the billonth time. I am sure I asked questions that have been answered many times as well.
