Hi,

I just wanted to know if you make your own gum paste? do you have an special recipe? or do you use the one that is in the Wilton Gum Tex?
I did my first like 2 or 3 weeks ago and it turned a little bit porous (Don't know if the word is right).
Any tip or recipe would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Biviana

I make mine with Nicholas Lodge's recipe and I like it very much. Easy to work with and long lasting.

Is the tylose the same as the Gum Tex?
Where can I find it? Thanks!

I am not sure if they are the same. You can buy Tylose powder from many sources online. Nicholas Lodge carries it .

I have not yet tried to make my own gumpaste, I have however been using the new Wiltons ready Made Gumpaste. It works ok for me.

I have very warm hands, so I make my gumpaste with fondant, tylose, and gum arabic added. I have to make it very stiff or it will melt in my hands. This also helps me to be able to make very thin flowers without them tearing.

I also use Nicholas Lodge's recipe, and I love it. Also because I only have to buy tylose, which I also use for the fondant I cover my cakes with, instead of buying gum trag. AND tylose (I am cheap icon_biggrin.gif )
