I am starting to learn how to use fondant, and I am just going to start first with the Wilton pre-made. Everyone knows how bad it tastes. Do you peel it off before you cut and eat the cake? I am confused because the whole point of the cake is to eventually eat it, and that stuff tastes horrible.

I have found that I cut the cake with it and serve it with the fondant on it. If people don't like it (which will likely happen b/c the Wilton stuff is gross) they can easily eat around it! Happy Baking icon_biggrin.gif

Yes I wouldnt bother wasting your time making a cake with that stuff, if you are planing to peel it off before serving.. Its so easy to make MMF ( marshmello fondant) and its cheaper to, that you are better off making the good stuff right from the start. Then at least you can cut a nice piece of cake and everyone can try it, if they dont like it they can peel it off thier piece before eating it. But most people like it, it is a little on the sweet side but keep in mind that unless they get a corner piece they are really only getting a tiny bit of fondant on top of their piece. sorry this was so long. Go to receips and get the receipe for the MMF its worth it..

There is a simple way to improve the taste of Wilton's fondanticon_smile.gif
Just knead in a couple of tablespoons flavoring!
Use what ever will go w/the cake flavor. Butter, vanilla and almond flavorings are great for most cakes.

If you MUST use Wilton's fondant, then I would suggest that you put the buttercream on a little thicker because people will most likely peel it off. I would not remove it before cutting the cake, just let them do that if they choose to do so.

I used it once, then tried the MMF and have used it almost exclusively.

I am doing a trial run through tomorrow. I will try the MMF. Thank you!

I've found this to be the best. Haven't tried MMF but after all of the positive comments about it I'll have to try it soon.[/u]
