Ok, well since I can't find a bc that I like, I've been using all the ones I've been testing to practice decorating. So I pulled out my wilton book and decided to try the rose. I got as far as making the base for the rose and that's all! I am clueless as to what they are trying to say! Does anyone know of any EASY tutorials for make the rose??
thanks all!
Just maybe you'll eventually see a cake from me!
If you like using you tube, I noticed that there are a bunch of videos on there of people showing how to make buttercream roses:

I also found a step by step tutorial at bake decorate celebrate:

My advice (from the wee bit of experience I have had): Just try to do it. It's almost like you have to instinctively just do it and see what works for you. You can keep scraping the frosting back in to a collection bowl, and then refill your bag when you are in need of more frosting. (cover the bowl with a damp paper towel so that the frosting doesn't get crusty). Have fun!!!
Did the step-by-step help you?
Make sure the back of the bag points over your shoulder; work on the side of the mound.
If the back of the bag is pointing like your arm would be if it was straight out from your side it will make the tip point at the mound - a no, no![]()
I say do NOT cover bowl/icing w/a wet towel
The icing will draw moisture from the towel and thin/soften your icing. Instead use plastic wrap to cover the bowl/icing.
I suppose you know to use tip 104 (or 103, 102, 101 progressively smaller) and to point the thick side down and the thin side up.
Hey Daisy, I found this one on youtube also that helped me, this woman pipes hers directly on the cake at the end of this video. She does it very quickly but I watched it a few times, then got out some frosting and practiced, it's a lot easier than I thought it would be. If you look at my last few cakes with roses, this is the method I used.

That was awesome. Thanks for sharing. I'm so excited to see how she mixed her icing colors...right on the table. That would speed it up, for sure. What an artist she is. I don't totally get her method of making roses but it sure looked great. I'll check out your pictures and see how they turn out.
I thought the same thing when I saw her mixing those colors, I also wondered what kind of food color that was. I've made 2 cakes since then using that method and I'll be making another one tomorrow night for my daughter's b-day. Don't know how it's going to turn out since I'll be piping them on the side of the cake ![]()
