Hello! I'm make a Thanksgiving cake, however thanksgiving dinner happens to be a 13 hour drive away, and I won't have the time to make the cake there....so I need to make it either Sunday or Monday, and have it last and still taste and look good for dinner Thursday! And since it's for the boyfriend's family, I want everything to come out right! What is the best way to keep a cake moist while traveling? Would MMF keep moisture in better than buttercream? Also, I was also planning on making a 3D pumpkin cake...so will I need dowels to keep it steady while traveling? What would be the best way to package it up so it stays nice?

If your 3d pumpkin is two bundt cakes tiered with a cakeboard; I would dowel. Better safe than sorry!

Do the cake as close to the time you are leaving as you can. Labor Day weekend I made my sister's wedding cake, decorated Thursday, drove Friday to get there, the cake was served Saturday and was nice and fresh tasting. There was a cake left that we didn't cut until Sunday and it tasted fresh too. These were buttercream covered.
Make sure your cake doesn't get too warm, that can cause it to dry out faster. If you do buttercream you can leave it in the fridge until you go and hopefully find fridge space at the house you're going to, that will also help it keep longer.
