I am a "Newbie" as well just joined the end of last month. I love posting and asking questions as well as answering what little questions I can. When I joined I jumped right in never thinking of how people would act. I havent ever seen a rude comment in here but I also didnt get on yesturday either. I love hearing all different technices because maybe one way I wouldnt be able to do it but another way I would. I love to hear all the different ways you can do something. I would hate for someone to say something rude about my cakes. Which look kind of crappy but I post them to see if people might give me something to work with. I love CC and it makes my day to be able to get on here and learn something new.
You know this is kind of funny, because I was reading a thread the other day and there were some really mean comments on it about another person's work. I started thinking about starting a thread like this one, but.....I was afraid I would make someone mad! ![]()
As someone said before, 99% of the people on here are absolutely wonderful! But then there's that 1%....!
I almost stopped posting for good because of some of the posts that I read on here.
I've also given someone advice on something that worked for me , but then someone posted about how that wouldnt work and I felt like a total idiot! Im afraid to give people advice now.
Anyway, that my opinion. Hope it doesnt offend! ![]()

See Karen,
I'm definately not trying to be mean. But, in your opinion you think this thread helps everyone get over this. But, I really think that it just rehashes everything and brings up bad feelings. It's kind of like heartburn, if you get my drift. I know your not trying to be mean or hurtful. But, your are coming off very judgemental and critical. I know that's not your intention but, neither was anyone elses to be hurtful.
I didn't see that one coming! But you are entitled to your opinion of me and my motives.
I started this thread, because it bothered me to see how catty and mean some threads were. They serve no purpose whatsoever. How does it help anyone to have a thread five pages long where everybody talks about how bad somebody's cakes are? No advice was offered. No suggestions made. It was just spite.

Look you have to be tough in this world and it does not matter. Dont be afraid to post/ thank god we all have different tastes and that is what matters we all have different ideas. Life is not all rosey. I do think if someone asks for advice give it......if you dont like something offer subtle suggestions or keep quiet......If I do not like a cake I avoid all comments.........We all have different ideas on what is good and what is bad but I do believe we should be frank or say nothing. Life is not about pretending everything is wonderful and it is not......But I would never ever be afraids of voicing my opinion. I have been taught and I do things differentlly to my teacher to suit my ways......Just ask what you want......Do not be afraid.
Agreed!
We all come here for advice and support, and certainly for encouragement. We all have those days where we just feel like our work is crappy, but being able to get the tips we need on here to improve our work is SO great! I agree heartily with everything everyone said about watching your tongue and re-reading posts, etc. Good advice ![]()
Same goes for politics, really. I get so exhausted with conflicting parties...why can't everyone just agree that EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion, even if it differs from your own!?
Maybe the beauty queens actually have it RIGHT when they wish for "World Peace". haha!

LeeAnn, I agree. I too believe in constructive criticism, if it is asked for. If I can help, I try to offer suggestions. If I cannot, I just stay quiet.
I too, have sometimes had my suggestions shot down.
But I have to say this, I have enjoyed being on CC, since I joined last year, and I have learned so much. The site is inspiring and I have made some good friends here.

I think that there are so many levels of abilities on CC and that at some point we are all insecure at how something we have done has turned out whether it's a cake or cookies. I remember how right after I finished cake 1 I made a cake for a family function and my SIL looked at it and kind of turned up her nose and said "It looks ok" I was heart broken and because of that I will never bake her a cake again. I was proud of myself for even attempting it.
I think this is a wonderful site and I'm glad that I found it. I love looking at everyones pictures and I think all the cakes and cookies are great! Everyone has been wonderful to me and answered any questions I've had. We all need positive comments to keep us going and improving on our skills. Keep up the good work CCers!

Karen if you read my post a little closer I said I didn't think it was your intention to be critical or whatnot. I said you were coming off that way even though it wasn't your intention. My point was that just like you weren't trying to come off that way...neither were most of the people that were posting trying to be malicious. I'm sorry if you took what I was saying any other way. I do agree with you about posting nasty comments. You are completely right. Everyone deserves to be encouraged and praised for thier efforts. And karennayak once again, I'm sorry if you took my post as being negative towards you. That was not my intention at all. And now I think I will join the lurkers. =)
Thank you so much for posting this. I am pretty new here and when I posted my first cake, I mentioned something about the icing being a secret family recipe and I did recieve some very nice comments, (Thank You) but then there was a forum started on "don't you just hate it when someone posts something about a secret recipe...). It did hurt my feelings and I edited my posting and took out the part about the secret recipe. I couldn't believe some people could be so hurtful and not think of others feelings. Since this episode, I usually just read the posts and very seldom respond but this post says it all!!!!
Thanks again and bless each and every one of you!!!!!!!!!
