Crusting Buttercream Aka Faux Fondant

I'm making a 3 tier wedding cake tomorrow using crusting buttercream:

And I was wondering if anyone has tried this before and could give me any "to avoid trial and error" tips because I only get one shot at this! Also, do you HAVE to contour your edges for this effect?
Are you talking about the link "faux fondant" in the recipe? I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're asking. By the way, have you ever tried Melvira's method? You might want to look into that. I've used it and it's worked well for me and many members here.
Melvira method, yes. I posted the link. I've never used it before and want to avoid any setbacks!
You posted the link to the faux fondant b/c recipe. ![]()
Here's the link to the faux fondant method tutorial:

But no, you don't have to use the contouring tool.
You can make a straight edge border.

Ok so quick question, I am going to try the melvira method today (the viva method did'nt quite work) , do I just let the butter cream crust and then roll the roller over it until its smooth? It just sounds too easy to be true?
Make sure your cakes are cool and crumby! Spread your icing on there like normal and get it as smooth as you want....then you can take the fondant smoother tool and smooth it out after 10-15 minutes.
thank you so much, I'm excited to try this! i'm leaving in a min to go get my roller! When you tried it did it worked for you?
I love the "method" but the recipe they have on here for it I hated! Crusting buttercream 2 I think. If you do that one, thin it a tiny bit more.
