Okay Really Needing That Constructive Criticism/advice/guida

Okay my cake MoJo has left me.. I have my nieces 1st birthday on the 25th. This is her trail birthday cake (well one of two) This is for the kids and I am doing a more formal cake (In fruit cake that we can keep till Xmas).
I had a terrible time trying to get the white smooth, her Mum wants pastel colours but if I go too light it looked a bit wishy-washy so your thoughts on colours would really help me. Do you think the background would look better in a colour and I should use white in the butterfly instead? Is the black body too harsh a colour?
Oh dear, just when I start to get a teeny bit confident with cakes up pops a cake that gives me a heart attack
.
Id really appreciate your advice and help
Your cake looks beautiful just the way you have it. If colors were any darker I don't think it would look as nice. The black body is good also, if you have to much black the kids will have black teeth and mouths lol. Your stars look good also, no cake peeking through. Very nice work.
i like this!!! the black butterfly body is perfect, no changes for me...
I think it looks great.
I did not even see the white background at first. It is as if it was not there. The other colors are great, not too dark and not too light.
I think when you have a chance to step away from it and then come back to it you will feel better about it. Sometimes we are too close to a cake to see the overall look! ![]()

Yip I think I just gotta stop looking at this cake
, Okay I'll stick to the colours, glad you've okayed the black body as that was really worrying me, and next time I'll try not to get that wonky antennae! ![]()
I used to be quite normal and not the least bit obsessive till I stated making cakes ![]()

I think it is totally adorable kat!! You still got the mojo going on!! ![]()
I agree, your cake mojo never left--still intact and I REALLY like this cake. Is that a border on the bottom in yellow and green? I want to see it. The cake is pretty seriouly. As many have written in other posts, "step away from the cake" and relax! ![]()
**I still have yet to use my silicon molds but soon. My girlie is only 9m so no reason yet!
