Okay my cake MoJo has left me.. I have my nieces 1st birthday on the 25th. This is her trail birthday cake (well one of two) This is for the kids and I am doing a more formal cake (In fruit cake that we can keep till Xmas).

I had a terrible time trying to get the white smooth, her Mum wants pastel colours but if I go too light it looked a bit wishy-washy so your thoughts on colours would really help me. Do you think the background would look better in a colour and I should use white in the butterfly instead? Is the black body too harsh a colour?

Oh dear, just when I start to get a teeny bit confident with cakes up pops a cake that gives me a heart attack icon_cry.gif .

Id really appreciate your advice and help
LL

The colors are perfect, the white serves as a good background and the black body makes sure it doesn't fade into the butterfly.

Your cake looks beautiful just the way you have it. If colors were any darker I don't think it would look as nice. The black body is good also, if you have to much black the kids will have black teeth and mouths lol. Your stars look good also, no cake peeking through. Very nice work.

I agree. I really like how it is. The black goes well, not too harsh at all!

That looks so cute! The colors are dark enough to be seen, but light enough to be pastels. Just right. If you're worried about the white background, how about a really light blue to look like sky? Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing.

I think it looks great.

I did not even see the white background at first. It is as if it was not there. The other colors are great, not too dark and not too light.

I think when you have a chance to step away from it and then come back to it you will feel better about it. Sometimes we are too close to a cake to see the overall look! icon_biggrin.gif

I like it just as it is. The white background makes the b/fly stand out, and the black is just the contrast you need. Good job! I wouldn't change a thing.

I agree, your cake mojo never left--still intact and I REALLY like this cake. Is that a border on the bottom in yellow and green? I want to see it. The cake is pretty seriouly. As many have written in other posts, "step away from the cake" and relax! icon_wink.gif

**I still have yet to use my silicon molds but soon. My girlie is only 9m so no reason yet!
