I tried it - what am I doing wrong! I don't see a difference. Are there any extra tricks? I know I bought the right roller! Help - I can't afford Viva - I have come to truly love the upside down method though!

I love this too! I do use the 6" roller though. It seems to be easier for me. I just love this method, thanks Melvia!!!!!!!

HI!!! YES YES YES I'm listening!!! And I L-O-V-E you all!!!! Sorry, but I was stuck in MIL-land all weekend, and now I am coming down with a nasty cold. I guess I truly am sick of her. Hehehehe. JK!! Anyway, thank you for being so sweet Sweetviolent. Bless your heart, and bless all of you for the positive response. Anyone who is having trouble with it... by all means, feel free to PM me, or anyone who has adopted this method and we can try to troubleshoot, or go into one of the original threads about it and see the tricks and tips we've discussed.

The roller method is truly amazing, but I am a bit disappointed in you, Melvira. I was sure that by now, you'd have a method perfected for NON-crusting buttercream. The hot spatula trick is good but not roller-calibur. Have you been sitting back, resting on your laurels? I challenge you to come up with an equally stellar idea for non-crusting BC!!!

Oh, I see how you are! You think I've gotten soft in my success? Well, I'll show you... I have already developed the answer to your challenge. And you'll be embarassed by how simple it is... there's only ONE step... ready?

Step 1. Use crusting buttercream. icon_razz.gif

Bwahahahahahahaha!!! icon_twisted.gif

Ok, I'll see if I can think of anything... but I don't use non crusting, except when I make Cream Cheese icing, so it will take a while!!

Funny! I do use crusting half of the time, but I really love the House Buttercream from the Whimsical Bakehouse cookbook and it's non-crusting. I use the hot spatula trick but it isn't perfect.

You work on that and get back to me, okay? lol

Alright, I am fairly new and missed the original post Melvira, can you add a link here, please? And can this method be used with Italian or Swiss meringue buttercream? I can't use the Viva towel method because the IMBC doesn't crust.

Hi Shirley! There are a few posts that you can choose from. The original post is here...
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-42675.html

But I technically explain it all here...
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-49423.html

Either of those should give you what you want!! Unfortunately as CKKerber continues to whine about (KIDDING!!) this does not work on non-crusting icing. Sorry!!

Thanks for the links Melvira. I was afraid of that answer, but was hoping maybe, just maybe it might work. I can usually get IMBC pretty smooth but am always looking for an easier or more foolproof way of doing it.
