I have a cake to make next week that will be for a 2 yr old tinkerbell party. It is for my niece. My sister picked out a cake from the galleries and I have the ladies permission to recreate it. It will be very simple just two tiers with tip 12 dots all over in green. The base colors are purple and pink. But I need Bright pink and Bright purple. Can I acheive this with wilton pink and Violet? I bought these two colors but now am having second thought as to whether they are right. Is there another color I could add to these? I don't have a cake store around here and I do this as a hobby so have limited colors icon_redface.gif but I do have the basics: red, blue, green, yellow, ect. the purple looks like it will be about right but to avoid using a whole jar what color could I use to work my way up? some blue and red? The pink looks like it may be a bit pastel, should I add some red to it?

I don't think this is much help, but I would suggest Americolor instead of Wilton as I've heard the fading aspect isn't as bad and you tend to use less of the coloring to achieve the desired results.

You didn't mention if this was BC or fondant. If it's BC I would make it a day or two in advance as sometimes it darkens as it sets. With fondant make sure you keep it away from a lot of light (sunlight or artificial) as purple and pink are notorious for fading!!

HTH a bit.

I created a really hot pink once by mixing leftover pink fondant with red.

If you look in the spice section of your local grocery, (I shop at Super Walmart), you can find a set of NEON food colors by McCormick. They are great. I use them all the time to tint buttercream. Its a four color set. Hot pink, bright purple, neon green, and bright blue. I love them and think they'd be just what you need. HTH

When I did some fondant I just used wiltons rose color and added more than normal, but ended up with a really hot pink. But with BC I am not real sure, I usually end up with a kind of deep pink. Good luck.

I've used Wilton rose color to make hot pink in buttercream. It was almost too hot of a pink!

The nearest store that I can buy from is an hour away! Has anyone made it from a combination of colors? It is for BC, sorry I never mentioned that before! And I also have to die the batter! pink for purple and purple for pink icing! It is going to be very colorful!

Oh, you can also add Kool-Aid to your BC for flavor and color and I'm sure if you mix the coloring paste with it that might give you the bright color you seek. I haven't tried it, but I don't see why you couldn't add it to cake batter too.
