I was asked to make my first sheet cake. I know i need to make 2 cakes...one yellow and one chocolate and put them together to icing. I also know i need to get a 12 X 19 pan for each to make the full sheet. I have a heating core, will 1 do the job for each cake? And should i also use the baking strips that i keep hearing about? I just want to make sure my cakes turn out well because this is my first cake not for a family member!! thanks for any advice or warnings for sheet cakes. thanks again!

I always put in 2 of the rose nails in that size cake. And while I've not used the strips...most here seem to love them...so I don't imagine it would hurt anything. I also turn the oven down to 325.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

I make the 12x18 pretty often, in fact I made one this morning. I've never used a heating core/flower nail in this pan and have never had it turn out anything but perfect. I just bake it at 325 for about 45-50 minutes. I do not use the strips around the side.
