I am trying to figure out what I am doing on an upcoming birthday cake. It is for a family member who is adamantly AGAINST fondant. I've tried Fond-x to no avail. So I thought maybe I could do a buttercream cake with fondant accents to get that sharper look. Any tips or ideas?? I am so afraid that the bc will crack with the fondant on it. I would love your input on the problems, etc. and how the best way to do this is icon_smile.gif

Thanks!!

My family is the same way. I always use fondant accents. I just put them on with more buttercream or before it crusts. Never had a problem.

Most of my customers and family don't even know what fondant is, the ones that do, only like MMF. I do a lot of cakes with fondant accents, never had a problem.

I do the same...apply the fondant accents before my icing crusts. No problems at all. Here's an example. HTH

I like to get my BC smooth using melvira's so it has to crust first. Then when I put the accent pieces on I just brush them with a little water and stick them on.

Do you cut them out and put them on while the fondant is still soft or let the fondant dry out and then attach with icing?

I put mine on while still soft and pliable.

I put mine on while still soft too. I've never had a problem with them sliding off.
