Hopefully the picture will attach. I have my first wedding cake order to be picked up 11/10 and I haven't a clue on how to make those silver beads? Are they edible? Can I make them edible? Do I use fondant and brush with silver luster dust? Any insight would be great. The cake will be covered in buttercream. Thank you!

You can use dragees. They Are edible "non toxic" Meaning they are for decoration but will not kill anyone!

You can make your own fondant pearls and dust them with luster dust. Earlene Moore has great instructions here: http://www.earlenescakes.com/prlinstruct.htm

Or you can buy silver dragees. The are non-toxic. They are those cute silver balls that we all grew up with for a Christmas cookies, but now they are banned in California. I still use them. icon_biggrin.gif You can get some here: http://www.thebakerskitchen.com/CAKE_SHOPPE/Sugars/Dragees/dragees.htm

Depends on the state. They are actually not always available. You should be able to find them at any good craft store. If you have trouble finding some I am sure we can find some for you!

Does anyone have trouble attaching them to the cake? Buttercream would probably be okay but I have an awful job attaching them to fondant. I usually use royal icing but I hate large blobs of icing showing and then if there is not enough they drop off. Also I find the silver comes off once you have touched them with icing. I try to use tweezers to hold them.

Do not buy them in the bead aisle at a craft store - those are plastic and NOT edible. Dragees are candy and should be found in the cake decorating aisle.

You can also find the dragees in the cake decorating/craft section of Walmart.

Alright, I bought some dragees at a cake decrating store a while back. After I got them home I noticed on the outside of the bottle they came in that is said "not edbible, for decoration only. They are silver dragees, I have also seen on some websites that they say not edible. Why is this?

I think it's because they actually contain real silver in them and it's not fda approved! It won't harm you.....but if it's not fda approved they can't say it's edible! I used to eat em all the time as a kid and nothing happened to me .............or did it??? lol j/k

Evidentally the silver are the only ones that they don't approve......they have all kinds of colors and they still look metallic but I guess THEY'RE safe and the silver aren't

I get them at the Amish market in Annapolis Maryland. They are edible. I have some gold ones that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I have eaten them without a problem. Good luck finding them.

Briarview - I had a hard time with pearls on fondant until I decided to poke a small hole - fill with b/c and then stick the pearl. Worked like a charm!

I would attach them with a small dot of royal icing, tip 1, in the same color as the buttercream. Good luck!
