I know this is such a basic question, but I want to make sure I am doing it right.

Here is the cake from Wiltons site I am gonna do for my daughters 1rst b-day

Can someone explain to me how to do pull out stars.

Oh and one more question, I have trouble getting a nice sharp tip to my stars. What consitency should I be using or are there any hints you all can give me!!

Thanks!!!

you use your #16 star tip. When youput pressure on your icing bag, let the icing spread slightly and pull the tip away from the cake. Practice on waxed paper until you're happy with the stars.

You might want to get that tip which has 3 stars in it. It would give the same effect and go a lot faster. This might be easier on you if you're new.

I do have the three star tip, but I tend to have better results with the single, but I think part of the reason why that is, is the consitancy of my icing

I use a medium consistency icing for stars.

Be sure to stop sqeezing then pull the tip away from the cake. This way it is easier to get the stars even.
