Buying Rolled Fondant Online

Happy Labor Day Weekend!!
Has anyone ever bought Pettinice Rolled Fondant online? I'm new to the fondant gig and have just bought my first one from Kitchen Kraft. I was wondering if that is the best place to get it both price wise and quality of the product or if there are any other places cheaper in price? And has anyone ever bought it on Ebay? There is a lady selling it almost half price of Kitchen Kraft but I'm not sure of the quality.
Thanks for your help.

I usually buy my fondant from Global Sugar Art or Pattycakes. Into the oven is the cheapest Ive seen and everyone raves about them. I usually use Satin Ice brand. I tried the Pettinice and it was hard as a rock. Im not sure if it was the brand or if it was sitting on a shelf for a long time. Either way, I usually stick to what I like to work with which is Satin Ice.
I buy my fondx and satin ice fondant from cakedeco.com. You do have spend $50 to order but they have lots of stuff. I order three pails of fondant and the shipping to CA comes to about $19. I had someone else order four pails and her shipping to TX was $20. Intotheoven offers great service and their prices are pretty good.
I don't use pettinice so not sure if this helps you or not.
I use Satin Ice and buy it at intotheoven.com Their satin ice white is $16.50 for 5 lbs and $50 for 20lbs. Shipping on 20lbs was $19 for me. That's pretty much the best deal I've been able to find.
They're also incredibly fast on delivery. I placed an order this past Wednesday afternoon and it arrived on Friday, can't get much faster than that. ![]()
I get my Satin Ice through DecoPac.com. Their 5lb. bucket is $13 for Vanilla or $15 for Chocolate. They also have 3 pre-rolled sheets of fondant for $17.75. And as I live in Alaska, shipping can be real expensive, but DeoPac charges only $27 for 2 day air, no matter what the weight.
justme50, actually you don't. I called and talked to them, aqnd was told to use my social security number. I was able to register with them and have had an account for almost a year now. From their catalog there are a few things you would not be able to purchase (the first half of it) unlss you become a distributor for them. But all of the decorating supplies in the 2nd half of the catalog are able to be purchased.
I just bought 20 lbs. of Satin Ice off eBay... I got it for $27.10 and then the shipping is $20 so I guess I got a deal... I'm not scared to buy that off of ebay since it's all sealed and everything... not like it can be tampered with. I've never used Satin Ice though, so we'll see... 20 lbs. will probably last me a year!
I get all my satin ice fondant from www.intotheoven.com they are wonderful!
Pghnana~ I just bought Pettinice on eBay a couple weeks ago. I got 20lbs for $59 and $8 shipping. It's a bargin compared to what we pay around where I live. It's $10 a pound for Wilton here and $20+ for the 5 lbs boxes. The Pettinice actually tasted pretty good...I bought white and it melted in your mouth almost instantly without the nasty after taste. It's loads easier to work with too! I got mine from Jester's Supply. He has super fast shipping if your order during the week but weekend orders don't get sent out till Wednesday.

chrissysconfections--Jester's Supply was one of the ones I was looking at on Ebay. Thanks for the info. I'll go back to see what all they offer.
Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions and help. I've checked out all the sites and they are so awesome. I probably won't do the one where they ask for your social security number, though. I don't have a tax number and I don't give my ss number out to ANYONE with ID theft so easy these days.
Hey, any more suggestions or help is always welcome! Oh, by the way, I did try a marshmellow fondant in June and although I think the cake came out gross my cousin, who is a master cake decorator, said it was good for a first try. It was probably too thick and I didn't know how to smooth it correctly on the cake, but I gave it a shot. I can't wait to try it again and do it right this time!!
Hello everyone....I recently made a cake with the satin ice and I had such a hard time with it.....I might have been something I did since I hear such great things about it. It was the black vanilla and once I started working with it, it became very thin and was very difficult to get on the cake with out it cracking or breaking.....I almost cried!
....my husband came to the rescue and rolled out the last tier...we finally finished the cake!
...although I regretted buying the satin ice.....I know that Wilton does not have a great taste although it is much thicker and easier to work with. Can someone give me some advice ...and tell me what I might have done wrond..or is that just how satin ice works? I have another order for mid September and I was looking for other brands that might be good to work with that does not taste so ....you know...Wilton.
HELP...PLEASE.......
It' s hard to know without seeing exactly what you did, but my guess is you probably rolled it a little too thin or took too long to get it on the cake and it got dry.
Just like it is with a lot of things, it takes some time to adjust to using something different than what you're used to. I just wouldn't try a new product on ordered cake, the worry that it won't work for me would drive me nuts.
Try a few practice cakes using the Satin Ice before you give up on it. I really think once you get the hang of it, you'll love it!
I agree it sounds like you rolled it a bit too thin. Also you may have used to much powdered sugar on your rolling surface and may have dried it out a bit too much.
I have used a few diffrent kinds of fondant and found satin ice to be the best one to work with. I also hear that fondex is wonderful as well but have never used it. I'd give satin ice another try before you toss it, if at that point you still do not like it, give fondex a try and see if that works better for you.
