Great cakes, everyone...
My home away from home is Greece....so here is a villa cake I made a while ago:
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=12308
Does this count?
It is a replica of the Groom's "sled shed" that he spends much of his time in during the winter....
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1063273.html
My DH kept saying "boy that cake looks like crap! But it's supposed to look like crap so I guess you hit the nail on the head."
I know it was supposed to be a compliment ![]()
I meant to post a picture of the actual shed as well, but I accidentally gave it back to the bride in the cake box, I thought I had scanned it in - goshdarnit! I'll have to get another copy and update my photo then.
The satalite dish on the top is supposed to be on it's side like that, the colors on the door are the stickers that were all over the door, it was covered wrap like that and had different color trim. I really hope I hear back from the bride about what she and her groom thought of it![/url]
I just love looking at everyone's idea of "home"
Is there going to be another TOTM? I hope bumping this up we will remind people of this!
Hi celosita002 ---I loved your New Mexico cake! Beautiful, & very neat, clean detail work that is so well illustrated.
In answer to your question, yes, we vote on a new topic at the end of every month. Then the new topic thread is posted for next month's entries. Come on back here any day now to suggest a new theme! Our trusty leader Melvira usually sets this all up for us! ( Out of the kindness of her little heart
)
I can't believe this month is almost over! ( I've got mere hours to post something myself! Yikes!!)
And I've been a bum about commenting in a more timely fashion. So, making up for lost time:
gateaux---very cute cake--LOTS of nice details!
SweetResults---funny, funny cake! Looks exactly like the real shed!
adven68-- WOW!!! I love your cake!!! It's just adorable---every inch of it.
I really wish that my lovely Greek mother-in-law was still alive to see your cake. She would have ordered one in a second!
freddy---very cool cake! I've never done a FBCT ( assuming that's what this is) Did you enjoy doing that?
marthajo1---OMG!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!!! A real show-stopper! That must have been fun ( and exhausting) to make.
Hello all, I'm coming to you live from Tulsa!! Had a great trip down here with MoyDear77 and am really looking forward to the competition this weekend.
In the meantime, let's get started on October's theme... visit the new thread here: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-5455783.html#5455783
And remember, there is still time to post in this thread. (*cough, cough* Nancy *cough, gasp, cough*)
Here are my entries for the "HOME" theme.
I should probably explain the buffalo one: When I was trying to come up with an idea for this month's theme, I started singing "Oh give me a HOME, where the buffalo roam ..."
The other entry is pretty obvious! It's a pie I've been wanting to make forever -- Chocolate Silk. (I haven't tasted it yet though. I'm afraid that it might not meet my high expectations -- I'll let you know after dinner tonight!!)
The cookies surrounding the pie, and the buffalo, are my usual sugar/butter recipe with royal icing.
I agree Melvira, I feel silly putting up my amateur work up in the same thread as you Nancy. Simply incredible!!
Oh gee great, Nancy got her cookies in before me...shoot...now mine are gonna look all silly and stuff next to hers....LOL....I still have to make them too! I was planning to do it tonight, but after having 9 kids by myself this morning, then 12 in the afternoon when my friend came over, and 8 after she left and took one of mine with her...I am pooped. Maybe tomorrow. Oh and just so you know how tired I am They were at the highest amout of children ages 9,8,7,6,6,5,4,4,3,2,2,1.....Now I just have the 7,6,5,4,3,2,2,1 year olds here, because my friend took my smart mouthed (only to me) 8 year old with her....God bless her ever lovin' soul! So tomorrow, after the other 4 get picked up by their next babysitter (mom's about to deliver and is having complications) I will get busy on my cookies...I promise!
*edited to add: all that while dealing with morning sickness!*
Um..... ya. Okay Nancy, thanks for sharing. I don't feel unworthy at all. Nope. Not me. Not a bit. ![]()
At least she was nice enough to wait until the end of the month before blowing us all out of the water with her incredible work!!
Simply amazing - what more can be said? ![]()
At least she was nice enough to wait until the end of the month before blowing us all out of the water with her incredible work!!
Yah, new TOTM thread rule... Nancy can't post until the last day of the month!! ![]()
Oh, come on now, don't feel bad... we only pick on you because we love your work so much!
(Guys, the truth is, I really am the one that does all her cookies, but I feel so bad for her that I let her post them using her name! That's the real story, but shhhhhh... we don't want her to feel bad that you know, so just don't say anything!! We'll keep it between us!)
Uh oh----I'm busted! Yes, I pay Melvira to do my cookies so I can join in here on CC. ( I'm really an aging adult film star who does cookies and cakes on the side in order to get myself out of this seedy business. Mel took pity on me when I PM'd her one lonely, drunken night and is just helping me 'till I can acquire some more skills.) OKAY??? Is that so WRONG??? ![]()

But seriously........Thanks for the nice comments. You guys crack me up.
So which is it----post on the last day of the month or just GO AWAY altogether? Shall we vote on THAT???
BarbaraK----YES---I should re-shoot the buffalo scene with Kevin and that sweet wolf (Two-socks?) in the background. Funny!
Oh, and by the way, that Chocolate Silk pie I made---not so good!!! Gotta keep looking for a better recipe. ( Not that I'm throwing this one out, mind you
)
Oh great-----now I've got that sappy Bette Midler song stuck in my head.
Thanks freddy and Melvira. ( Um, you'll both want to remove your lips pronto------I haven't showered today
)
You know I was just being miffed and snotty for fun. I enjoy it here with you guys way too much to leave. The abuse ( aka: the love) you heap on me is endearing!!!!!
Melvira you in Tulsa right now? I'm coming in the morning. Wish I was there already. Was today great? I'm looking forward to meeting you and the other cc's tomorrow. Pink shirt green ribbon still the cc deal? Well I gotta get some things done so I'll be ready to go. see ya Debbie
Yes, I will be there tomorrow, but I'm not doing the pink shirt thing because I just don't have one! Hehehe. I will be hanging out around the cakes, taking more pictures. Hopefully we'll bump into each other! You can always look at the spotlight page for MoyDear and me, so you know what we look like, then you'll have a leg up for looking!
Hope we see you!
I'm cracking up reading everyone's post!
Nancy of course we wouldn't want you to leave. I love seeing your beautiful masterpieces. Course I'm inspecting them to see if they aren't cookies but just photoshop images! That is how real they look.
Ugh, I'm late! I didn't find this thread till today... but I just wanted to add one of my old cakes from 2006... my in laws had just built a new house on a big piece of land and they were turning the land into farmland (big garden along with a lot of pine trees & a pond they built so I thought this was appropriate for them... all buttercream
(trees are ice cream cones & pretzels) I'll keep a lookout for this month's challenge! Thanks!
mommabuda... that is SO cute! What a neat cake! I'm so glad you found us! This month the theme is Dark& Mysterious, you can find the thread here: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-542533.html
