OK, Please help, any advice/ideas WELCOME!!! I need to send a cake from VA to CA, really, coast to coast! Does anybody know if this is even possible? icon_confused.gif Would the USPS (I figured is the most afordable) allow me send a cake? I was thinking maybe express (overnight) mail? If you ladies think it might be possible, how would you pack it? Or has anyone done this in the past? It will be a baby shower cake, I'm planning on doing something simple, not much detail (3D detail) to avoid any potential problems. So please, any ideas? I know I can always count on you!! I would be interested in this too. My nephew is in the Navy and I would love to send him a cake for ALL of the Holidays coming up.

I wouldn't recommend trying to send a decorated cake. No matter how much you label that it's fragile, etc., a great deal of the handling is done by machine, and you never know how the box is going to get tossed around. However, there are CC members who do ship cheesecakes and could give you advice on that.

Check out http://www.cakemixdoctor.com/ask/newsletter/issues/pagemaker.cgi?1066150859.txt
They talk about sending cakes on there. In case the link doesn't work you basically bake a bundt cake, cool it, freeze it, box it up wrapped in newspapers or packing peanuts and keep it in the freezer until you send it.
HTH!!

There was a thread going a couple of days ago, and they were successful sending decorated cakes.
Try doing a post search for mailing cakes. I think one who did it was adven68, but am not positive.

Check back through some of the posts for a few days, it hasn't been very long. Janice

a quick story re: usps:

I had an internet order for some cookies (not bouquet). I packed it up along with several other packages and requested USPS door pick up - you can get that if you have at least one priority or express pkg. My cookie package had fragile and this end up printed everwhere I could put it!!

After it gets picked up, I get an email stating they wanted it to go to a different address. SOOO....Since I live in a kinda small town, I decide to find the carrier and get the box back to relable it. I find him at Mcdonalds (it was lunchtime), and explain the situation. He goes into the back of his truck and looks around. I'm standing there and he says " It would be at the bottom! " Like ha ha ha how ironic. I'm thinking AT THE BOTTOM!!!

My cookie package was at the bottom of all of the other packages in his truck and it was upside down!!! Luckily, no damage because of how I had it packed, But I thought what if It was a cake or something!

I guess a well packed cheesecake would survive, but I would not trust them to deliver a decorated cake!

Hi Rezzy!! Thanks for sharing!! I don't know what I would've said to the carrier, I can't imagine putting so much work to a cake or cookies and then having them mess it up! I'm still thinking about it, I would love to, but in the other hand, I just checked the USPS website and to send a package coast to coast that weighs 15lbs is aprox $50. I don't know what I should do, as I'm not getting paid for this cake, it is for my MIL (my DBIL is having a baby). Oh well, I guess I will have to ask my DH if I can spend about $100 on the cake with shipping, as it is for his family. Thanks so much!!!
