I have overextended myself and I have to know - if you somewhat overbake a cake, does it shrink in the pan???

Do I have to do it over again???

yes it will shrink if you over bake it...it may be a little dry or a lot dry depending on how long you went over...is it burned??

i think if you make a simple syrup it will help with keeping it moist and you may not have to bake it over.

I personally would rebake it. I don't give sub par products to my customers.

I am going to rebake. Not sure when though. Guess what happened.

My DH and son are out of town visiting Grandma. I have 2 wedding cakes this Saturday, both small.

First cake has been baked, no problems. Second cake, this happens. So I decide to rebake, but while the cake is in the oven I decide to bop up to WalMart because now I need a couple extra supplies (more eggs). It's right up the road.

Of course - I get a flat tire. And there was a thunderstorm. And my DH is in Wisconsin. And I don't get paid till Tuesday so I can't afford a new tire just now...furthermore I have to get a friend from work to come put my spare on tomorrow because I'm just a girl and I can't do that icon_rolleyes.gif and it's 70 bucks to get a tow truck to come fix it.

Not to mention I have to work all day tomorrow and can't get out of it

RRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

I hate my life today!!!!!!!!!! thumbsdown.gif

Anyone else want to come to my pity party??? party.gif

i had to over bake a cake today as i discovered some of my pans gone missing! so i used a springform as a back up and decided to add a bit more batter and torte it later. so the white cake mix ended up being a bit more golden brown then i wanted. but its not hard or burnt so i'm going to just go with it.

Delights,
I feel your pain. I had two cakes this week on top of culinary school starting (classes 4 days a week). The first cake due on Wed and the 2nd due on Thurs. 1st cake had no troble, 2nd cake - every time I took it from the fridge something happened to it. But it all worked out in the end!
