Hi,

I was hoping you could please help me.

I am making a birthday cake for my boyfriend. I'd like to do white fondant with a red ribbon around the bottom, and a bunch of those long, skinny candles sticking out of the top. Is that possible?

I have these matching, red retro striped plates. They have a band of a few red strips around them. It sounds funky, but it's actually china and the pattern is kind of elegant, so I'd like to stick with that kind of feel. (Next year I'll do the funky, whimsical cake)

Any ideas?
Thank you for your help.

Just poke them in. That's what I do, it works fine.

Just poke them in like peacockplace said. If you want to dress it up you can put a ball of fondant where each candle will be or a fondant cut out. You can also put a little buttercream flower there to look like candle holders.
