Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share my smokin' deal for today. thumbs_up.gif I went into Home Depot looking for some wood boards to cut for my cakes. They carry the 1/2" masonite type boards there. I asked if they had any scrap boards and I was directed to a section of the scrap wood and found the same masonite boards in 2'x3' rectangles for ...... FIFTY ONE CENTS EACH! Woohoo!!!

I can get several rounds or squares out of each board and they are certainly cheaper than buying them pre cut. Now I just need to get my DH to cut the correct sizes for me.

So if you're in need of some decent boards, check out the scrap section at your local home builder's store.

Hope that helps!
KimAZ

I have been using the masonitr from Hd myself( didn't get he deal you got but...) still my hubby cut sizes from bigger boards. they are sturdy and in many cases cheaper than buying multiple cakeboards. they usually comeback BUT if not it isn't a huge $ loss and they don't flex like cardboard

I actually do. My DH can't handle a power tool for the life of him. He lets me do all the home repairs and does not have a problem admitting that I have the handyman gene.

I am so lucky. My girlfriend's parents own a lumber yard and she gives me the paneling samples when they become obsolete. My son cuts the boards for me. I write my name and phone number on the bottom of the boards with a "please return to". Also gives my number out in case they need another cake or someone else needs one.

I like using the boards much better than cake boards. I'm more confident that they won't buckle or something. icon_lol.gif

jmt1714 & mpitrelli--you're not alone at all! I not only own the power tools (and know how to use them) and cut my own boards, but I completely gutted and remodeled my own kitchen ten years ago. Still love it!

I may not grunt like a man but call me the power tool queen I am the detail person around this house. heck a power tool is just like a sewing machine and I learned to sew at are 8...infact I think that is why I can cut a straight line with a jig saw.

get a roto zip and the circle cutting tool

Thanks I had no idea there was a scrap wood section I will have to check it out.
