Everything that could go wrong when wrong with this cake. The first cake I baked stuck to the pan so bad it was ruined So I baked another cake then had to bake a chocolate cake because they wanted half white half chocolate. the chocolate cake fell horriably (sp?) didn't have another cake so I just had to use it (plus after baking 3 cakes in one day I was done baking LOL) the vanilla cake baked up taller than the chocolate so the two sides of the cake were uneven. my fondont screen broke in half icon_cry.gif and didnt dry (let it sit for a week and added gumtex to it) then when i made the keybord I added more gumtex to because the first piece didnt dry and added too much the fondont was so hard to work with it kept cracking, The FBCT that I made broke in half when I put it on the screen I repaired it the best I could and put it on the fondont then it was starting sweating icon_confused.gificon_eek.gif I made a double batch of frosting to frost the cake and RAN OUT icon_mad.gif , The Icing on the back and sides was full of crumbs (yes i used a crumb coat) and you could see the cake through the frosting on the top. But here is the Finished product not bad if I do say so myself especially with the laundry list of problems. What do you think?
oh p.s. the computer is made out of fondont the screen is a FBCT I piped all of the letters on the keyboard the part of the screen thats holding the transfer is the part that broke in half. The cake is 8in square van and 8in square chocolate with strawberry cream filling the rest is iced and decorated in buttercream
p.s.s I think the happy brithday lettering is my best handwriting EVER LOL icon_biggrin.gif

I think it looks great, especially the lettering on the keyboard. I am doing a laptop for a groom in a couple weeks and have been wondering about that. I will definitely keep your keyboard in mind when doing mine.

Is the whole computer out of fondant? My keyboard part will be cake, but the screen out of cookie cake covered in fondant.

yes the whole comp is made out of fondont I used cookie sticks to make it stand up in the cake, I would actually say that covering a cookie with fondont would have been easier because I had such a hard time with the screen part breaking, the keybord was the easiest part used a square cutter to make the keys, the picture is FBCT which acutally stayed on the fondont better than I thought it would, thanks everyone for your comments you are so supportive, I just wanted someone besides family to tell me that it looked good LOL icon_biggrin.gif
