I am trying fondant today for the first time in hopes of using it tomorrow on a fishing cake. WELL....It's just a crumbly mess! What did I do wrong? I can't find the How To article on this site about it...I was just following the recipe. What did I do & what can I do to fix this??? I have to leave in an hour for a dinner & was hoping to have this ready before tomorrow!

Try kneading in some more Crisco until it is a workable consistency. It sounds like you added too much powdered sugar (you don't always need the full amount stated in the recipe for some reason).

Good luck!

If you are making marshmallow fondant, you probably added too much powdered sugar. when you use that recipe, you need to hold back 1 or 2 cups, at least, because your batch may not need all the sugar.

you can probably fix this with water/shortening. Sprinkle with a tiny bit of water and knead it. you can also put shortening on your hands to add more moisture. It may also help to warm it some in the microwave. BE VERY careful. Hot fondant can burn.

If you're making MMF you probably added too much powdered sugar. Dampen a hand and knead some more. Be sure you've put Crisco on you hands and on the work surface. It makes it easier to knead and much easier to clean up, no sticking. MMF if wonderful, you'll get it and be off to dinner.

thanks!!!! I did add crisco & a little water and kept kneading it! Now it's like playdough!! BUT It still has little tiny bits of powdered sugar in it...maybe i should have sifted the powdered sugar first?
