I had a request for another pink poodle cake but she would like the bday girl's name "suspended" on top of the cake. How do I get it up there?? Floral wire/gumpaste?? icon_cry.gif

I have never used gumpaste. Is it hard to use?

Would I put the wire in the letter as it is drying so that it will stay on?

I usually attach a stick or wire to the back with a few dabs of royal or colorflow after the plaque / lettering is dry, then let set.

Gumpaste isn't difficult to use. It dries nice and hard. I like to mix 1/2 fondant 1/2 gumpaste.

I think gumpaste or colorflow would work.

In gumpaste it is very easy Just make the letters and stick fine wires through when wet. Only real problem is you really should NOT be putting wires into the cake. (Health and Safety) see my cake with stars. Same principal.

I guess I could wrap them with plastic wrap at the ends or something. BTW, I LOOOVE your "JAILHOUSE ROCK" cake.

The plastic wrap idea is good but in my practise runs it slids off as well as cellotape so do you want bits of plastic sitting in the cake/ I suggest another layer of floral tape and stick in last minute to stop any reaction taking place..Apparently you have coffee straws there whereby you can insert the wire. Good luck.
