I Return Triumphant! (1St Real Wedding Cake)
Decorating By sweetamber Updated 28 Oct 2006 , 1:23pm by sweetamber
I am finally back from my friend's wedding and am thrilled with how well everything went! I was so worried about pulling it off, but it went better than I expected! I never would have had the confidence to try this if it hadn't been for Cake Central and everyone who is so knowledgable and helpful! This was a logistical nightmare (flying across the country with cake layers and fragile gumpaste and fondant decorations) But it worked out perfectly thanks to you guys ![]()
I just posted pictures of the finished cakes in the gallery, so please go take a look....but I wanted to post a picture here of a minor repair job I had to do. I set up the cakes before the wedding and then rushed to the chapel (couldn't miss that part
) and about 2 hours later when I got back to the reception site, I found that a couple of the flowers had not been placed correctly and had slipped. Here is a before and after shot, and a picture of both cakes together. Thanks for looking!
Good job! Very interesting design on the sheet cake. Glad things worked out!
Thanks for the comments
. I am so pleased that I was able to do this for my friend- the cakes were my gift to her. I think my favorite thing about it was how excited all the women in the reception hall were about them- the catering manager asked me if they could use a picture of them in their advertising! I am so bummed that I live here instead of there, because they wanted my cards and I know I would have picked up some business from them
. Oh well...My friend and her husband really loved their cakes and that's what matters most!

WOW! The cakes look great! AND you traveled with them--omg--I'd be a nervous wreck!(and so would my cakes--lol).
Love the colors. Did you do the sheetcake too? How did you get the pattern?

I just traveled with the layers (unfrosted) and decorations. I made the smbc, cream cheese icing, and raspberry mousse there. For the sheet cake I made individual tiles out of fondant/gumtex and hand painted them with americolors thinned slightly with orange extract. You can get a better look at them if you peek in my pictures
. I also coated them with confectioner's glaze to give them a glazed ceramic tile look and it worked perfectly!
Thank you so much everyone for your comments- they mean a lot coming from all of you
! It's hard for me to believe how much my decorating skill and creativity have expanded since I found CC ![]()
